In January we presented you with two impressive fan remakes for old Star Wars classics, now the time has finally come: You can now download TIE Fighter: Total Conversion (TFTC)! The mod lets the space game shine in new splendor after 27 years. With us you can read exactly what kind of content you can expect and how to install it correctly.
It is best to have a look at our detailed video interview with the highly motivated modders behind the project beforehand. In it they explain how they managed to work on their mod for 20 years (!) And how they were inspired by The Mandalorian and Star Wars: Squadrons.

Finally the well-deserved remaster for Tie Fighter and X-Wing Alliance
This is in the total conversion
X-Wing Alliance als Basis: The modders recreated TIE Fighter in the engine of the somewhat younger X-Wing Alliance (from 1999), because it was based on stronger technology. This port makes it possible to significantly improve both graphics and gameplay.
All missions, new campaign: All the original campaigns and missions including the old training units are in TFTC, you will also recognize all the cut scenes and speakers. There is also a revised campaign that consists of the first eight battles and expands them to include larger fleets and new tasks.
Graphics, sound and VR: Of course, you shouldn’t expect TFTC to be able to keep up with a Star Wars Squadrons in terms of looks, but the graphical improvements compared to the original are still impressive (see also the trailer below).
The sound has also been modernized, but before the nostalgic people let the corners of your mouth hang down, there’s the all-clear: if you wish, you can easily switch to the old MIDI soundtrack. There is also good news for VR fans: The mod offers full VR support.

How do I install the mod correctly?
Requirements:
-
To be able to play TFTC, you need the game X-Wing Alliance. At Steam and GOG it currently costs eight dollars, in the summer sale until July 8, 2021 it is even cheaper. If you already have it, you should reinstall it.
-
In addition, you must first have the mod X-Wing Alliance Upgrade
Have you met all the requirements, then you download TFTC at moddb.com free download. The download size is just under 8.0 GB. Then you select TFTC in the launcher of X-Wing to start it.
The installation instructions are also available as practical YouTube video. If the TIE Fighter still doesn’t want to take off smoothly, you can get the Discord-Server Advice and help.
