Do you know that too? Do you have over 600 smartphones in your closet and don’t know what to do with them? Jokes aside, we don’t know that either. The Tech YouTuber Mrwhosetheboss however yes. In his 11-year YouTube career, he has accumulated more than 600 smartphones and is slowly not knowing what to do with them anymore.
The YouTuber Network is there to help, though. Because this is where another big name of the platform comes into play: DIY Perks. In his career, he has already collected over 3.5 million subscribers with his clever do-it-yourself projects.
DIY Perks takes on the task of building an elegant shelf that has space for all the smartphones. This should not only look elegant, but also be functional. To do this, of course, it has to protect the cell phones themselves. If you line them up like books, you can damage the display and camera.
Problem 1: Store carefully
DIY-Perks therefore opts for a combination of wood and a 3D-printed bracket that holds the smartphone upright. So the phones have some space and are stored without touching each other.
Problem 2: Finding the right smartphone quickly
If you store 600 smartphones on a shelf, it could take a while before you find the right model. But DIY Perks has a suitable solution for this as well. This consists of a combination of LEDs and a Raspberry Pi.
A 400W power pack is built into the shelf to supply all the equipment with electricity.
He can now control the shelf with his own mobile phone. Here he selects the desired model and the LED lamp lights up in the place where the smartphone he is looking for is located. Here you can find out why colleague Nils Raettig is probably stuck with his old smartphone forever:

This is what the finished shelf looks like
The finished shelf is 3 meters long and can accommodate Mrwohsetheboss’ complete collection. In the bottom row is the power supply and the Raspberry Pi. There is also space for older or cheaper smartphones, which can be stored in a row. You can see the whole project in this video:

But that’s not the YouTuber’s only impressive project. Last year he built a breathing PC that is only cooled by a kind of lung. You can find out how this works and, above all, what the device looks like here:
