Zenless Zone Zero has a stranglehold on the gacha genre and the gaming industry as a whole, but while most gamers are stuck at home playing on their PCs or phones, one player has taken gacha gaming to a new level. According to a post on Reddit, user MiamiUkrainian has managed to run the game on an old-school CRT.
The post was a short video showing the launch screen and some of Sixth Street’s in-game footage and combo tracks, with the game playing on an old Sony TV. The reaction to the video was pretty much what you’d expect, with jokes mixed with genuine awe at the lengths this player had gone to to recreate a retro experience, in the form of a retro-styled Gacha game.

As for why do this? Aside from the obvious cool factor, Zenless Zone Zero is full of early 21st century technology and callbacks to that pop culture and industrial era. The streets are filled with period-appropriate decorations, and the game’s exploration missions and Hollow Zero runs have you as the player shuttle through a series of CRTs. As such, it’s the perfect game to port to retro hardware, even if the time required to actually get it running is certainly beyond the author’s comprehension.
You have to admit that gamers who attempt large-scale creative projects have achieved something in terms of immersion in the technical capabilities. MiamiUkranian is one such player, and we can only hope that they continue to play games with this setup in the future, even if it is a bit cumbersome compared to modern alternatives.
