Last year we looked at the silent Nintendo consoles that we would like to see return to the switch, and our desire to see any of that series and is still firmly burning in 2020. With Nintendo's major investors having received Turnch's entry, It's now time to bring back some of the company's well-established company IPs.
However, there is one game that we haven't even mentioned in that list, the main reason being that it & # 39; s still & # 39; entry via Wii U and spinS for 3DS, so the franchise could not describe it as a & # 39; dormant & # 39; However, after several years of vague statements (and vague statements) regarding its existence, Pikmin 4 still not yet in the Nintendo console. In fact, he seems to have disappeared altogether. Miyamoto said it's almost complete … or did we dream that?
Is Pikmin 4 simply getting involved, waiting to blossom when the time is right while other games jump on the line? Either it was completely stretched or rebuilt as a whole Metrop Prime 4? Come with us as we take a look at the history of the game and explore other ideas about its absence. Where is it hidden?
The evidence so far
Before we begin to unravel the causes of its continued absence, it is worth looking at the facts and the strong evidence that proves the existence of Pikmin 4. As you will see below … in fact there is none. Nope, not so much as a single screen or a mature brand – just the name of one developer you may have heard about …
These days Nintendo is a firm favorite when it comes to commenting on development projects. Overall the company usually only announces upcoming games within a year. There is a marked difference such as The History of Zelda: Breathing in Wildlife (and its upcoming sequel) and Metrop Prime 4, but the discussions focus on the games we will be playing over the next 12 months.
So, when Shigeru Miyamoto said just in an interview with Eurogamer in 2015 that Pikmin 4 was "actually very close to completion", we were all excited. No, this information did not come with the official Nintendo Direct trailer or official PR inbox, but when Mario's own father says that the Pikmin team has almost unveiled a game that has never been announced, one thinks he is not just ahead of him or a mix of words & # 39; almost finished & # 39; and & # 39; t just thinking& # 39 ;.
A year later he reported to Game Rant that Pikmin 4 was still working, though he struggled to copy it to Nintendo's "list of priorities." By developing for Nintendo to get a whole new release next year, Pikmin 4 seemed to be betting as the opening year title of the console we would know as Nintendo Switch.
Skip a few months later again Hey! Pikmin the 3DS has been announced. After some initial confusion it was established that they were not Pikmin 4. Indeed, Miyamoto made fun while talking to Eurogamer in mid-2017 in the form of a sequel to the numbers, no doubt looking at the differences he made behind the scenes by renaming the project that was not announced:
"I've been told not to share something from PR," laughed Miyamoto, "but I can tell you it is going on."
& # 39; Continuous & # 39; it may have been, but since then it has been quiet all west, east or somewhere where Pikmin is concerned. This month we heard rumors of the Touche switch station Pikmin 3, and Nintendo's removal of Pikmin 3's official North American website sparked flames of rumors. It's amazing, though, why Nintendo is offering Pikmin 3 to convert it if the sequencing process is about to be completed four years ago.
It's a poster.
So, where is Pikmin 4?
Almost five years after Shigeru Miyamoto first mentioned it, and seven years after Pikmin 3 on the Wii U, we have never been the one to understand about Pikmin 4 or when it came to fruition. Since we are immersed in its history, it is time to start thinking about where you are in the third order. Wear hats when we’re ready!
Theory # 1 – A misunderstanding that happens with carelessness and Pikmin 4 never existed
Another possibility is that Miyamoto was talking about big porky grass or jokes when he said the game was almost finished. Maybe his jokes are lost in translation, or an engineer who is also a deadpan genius, until no one realized he was playing a joke. Deeply shy and eager to save himself, he decided to follow the lead immediately after the game when he walked into Nintendo & # 39; s Kyoto offices on Monday after E3.
Probability: 0/10 – Miyamoto has been around the block enough times to know not to joke about or discard projects not mentioned in the discussion. It is one thing to say "we are thinking about the possible sequences, even though we are in the early stages of planning" and something to say – without the blue, remember – that the game that was never announced was "actually very close to the end". PR and bad night or not, it can't be imagined that Miyamoto just laughs. Yes, we fans of the key video game can be comedians without a sense of humor, sarcasm or excitement, but come on!
Theory # 2 – Pikmin 4 has been restored to the drawing board, Metroid Prime 4-style
When asked about other franchises we haven't seen in years, the answer from Miyamoto or other developers often is that they will need a new direction or hook to confirm a new entry in Favorite series of fans X. This fits in well with Nintendo's desire to continue to offer new experiences, so perhaps the Pikmin 4 simply wasn't a fluke.
Probability: 4.372 / 10 – This sounds a bit boring, especially when you look at Pikmin 3. It's a great game, but it's also hard to argue it achieves so much more than the glorious Pikmin 2 that it wasn't two generations ago on GameCube. The GamePad is an obvious addition, but installing a stylus was not an option when introduced and most players liked the accuracy of the good ol & # 39; Wiimote and Nunchuk. In fact, the HD graphics were flawlessly challenged by the extra Pikmin 3 on the table. We never complain – the fruit never looked so delicious! – But with the machine it certainly wasn't a Pikmin paradigm shift.
Bearing all of this in mind, it is unlikely that after three similar games Miyamoto realized that the Pikmin 4 genre that was about to end provided nothing & # 39; – Pikmin just above. In fact, we can enjoy & # 39; Pikmin & # 39; more – Pikmin more capable. See also F-Zero, Wave Racing, etc.
Theory # 3 – Hey! Pikmin was actually Pikmin 4
Hey! Pikmin was founded by Arzest, a studio behind similar games Yoshi's New Island, as well as a game released in July 2017 for a central review. As a backdrop for a tasty little Pikmin platform it wasn't that bad, but it was a Pikmin game that nobody could ask for. It was feared that this was the Pikmin 4 that Mikamoto was talking about. Maybe he was using Hee! Pikmin's working title?
Probability: 1/10 – Slim inaccessible. More than Miyamoto beating Pikmin 4 was in progress back the announcement of the Arzest game, and nothing on Arzest's CV (which includes a 3DS port Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympics and Streetpass Mii Plaza) suggesting that the studio is well equipped with 3D Pikmin series buttons.
Theory # 4 – Pikmin 4 is actually an unannounced mobile game
We said when Miyamoto first made an impression on Pikmin 4 that there was very little chance that it would be a viable project involving a new DeNA collaboration that Nintendo had announced (that is when Iwata spoke about the existence of & # 39; NX & # 39 ;, a console that could become Swap, reinforcing fears that Nintendo might be running out of a dedicated hardware business).
Opportunities: 2/10 – As we said at the time, we don't see that Miyamoto is expanding the mobile version of any Nintendo franchise by making it a sequel to basic series numbers – and especially not as close to his heart as Pikmin, who has always been his kid. We think strong fans will respond negatively to this, too. Can you imagine? "PIKMIN 4 IS SURE … mobile". Oof.
Theory # 5 – Pikmin 4 became something else
You all remember the Super Mario 128, don't you? A technical sketch in which Marios 128 was running against the disabled sector? The word became something fairy tale, & # 39; sequence & # 39; near mythical to Super Super 64 disappearing like other similar projects Super Mario Sunshine he saw deliverance. But where is Money 128 ?? the internet begged. We're sure you can ask some people today and they'll tell you that Nintendo is secretly humiliating the truth trailing Mario 64 so far.
The fact is that it was simply a GameCube tech show and that technology has entered various games, perhaps most importantly for the first time. Pikmin. Maybe the code that created Pikmin 4 was distributed to other games we've played on the switch. Which, you ask? Erm …, well, Cinda in Super Mario Odyssey? You …, … ARMS tech, maybe !? Yes, we know that is an easy thing.
Opportunities: 2/10 – There would be something poetic about the series that won the Mario 128 Massacre to pay it forward in other games, right? It looks awful, though, and neither of them will see the election, either. All of Mario 128's circles came at a time when Nintendo's messages weren't too hot (right then the & # 39; Celda & # 39; s argument) and since then the company has gained a lot of appreciation when it comes to managing expectations and it's very clear to label things.
No, we are confident that Pikmin 4 is still & # 39; A Thing & # 39; ™ and not the new Money 128.
Theory # 6 – Pikmin 4 will arrive in 2040
The first game came out in 2001. The sequel came three years later in 2004. Pikmin 3 lasted for nine years until its launch in 2013. If this pattern of development time for each intervention is to continue, we will see Pikmin 4 sometime in 2040, 27 years after the last sequence.
Trails: hahahaaaa … The people of C & # 39; mon, have a dysfunctional day.
Theory # 7 – Pikmin 4 continues to jump into the back burner
Pikmin may have a strong following, but it is not a system vendor. It would be absurd to describe it as a religious program – each collected game has sold over a million copies – but it certainly doesn't have a huge market share for Marco or Zelda. With Nintendo adopting the genre of Real Time Strategy, there will be more audience than Nintendo's tent series, no matter how beautiful, engaging, or critical the package is.
Compare original games 1.6 million sales – The most successful series so far – with 22.96 million copies Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold (so far), or 17.68 million units Super Smash Bros. Finally, and it's easy to see why even Miyamoto finds it difficult to prioritize Pikmin for more profitable projects.
Opportunities: 8/10 – A surprisingly small interpretation is very possible. If you look at the first-team offerings in the first three years of the Switch, Nintendo has hit all the crowd-pleasing notes: launching The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild right out of the gate and chasing after Super Mario and Splatoon 2 within a few months, all this time we support a plan for navigating certain Wii U ports and new software for regular supply. Pikmin simply wasn't over the heap. So far, maybe …
Theory # 8 – Surprise! Pikmin 4 will change in 2020
One of the benefits of Nintendo exclusively discussing games coming soon is that we don't have to wait until E3 to get the big announcements – megaton Nintendo Direct is coming at any time. It's one of the reasons that Nintendo's slide is empty for 2020 (post Crossing the Animals: New Horizons) doesn't bother us too much. The 2019 schedule looked exactly the same until February 2019 Nintendo Direct when all hell broke loose, and 2019 was a bitter year on the switch.
So, with that in mind, Pikmin 4 may & # 39; s amazing & # 39; beloved coming 2020?
Opportunities: 7/10 – Stranger things have happened and time has not improved. With all Nintendo's tents set up in the switch, now is the right time to get Olimar out of the new planet. The New ports for the Play Store Wii aside, Switch offers a much more robust Pikmin base for prosperity than GameCube or Wii U. Maybe in a Pikmin switch it will eventually gain weight following it properly.
So, will Pikmin 4 see the light of day anytime soon? We can hope. As it is ripe for 2020 to be announced, it will definitely fit well into Swingch's dynamic library but we'll have to wait and see what Nintendo is finally doing. If the worst comes to the worst, we'll eat people at E3 2020 with a review.
