Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of Box Art Brawl!
Before we get into this week’s fight, let’s take a look at how things turned out last time. We looked at Turok 2: Seeds of Evil for the N64 and oh my god God, was it close. A lot of you didn’t seem too keen on either design, but in the end the western variant won with 51% of the vote.
This time, with the full reveal of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on our minds, we check out the last major game in the series: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Launched for the Wii in 2007, it took full advantage of the console’s motion controls for a sublime gaming experience that felt natural and evolutionary (just make sure you switch the motion controls to ‘advanced’!).
This time we have another matchup, with North America and Europe teaming up against Japan. So without further ado, let’s get down to it.
Be sure to cast your votes in the poll below; but first, let’s look at the box designs themselves.
Europe / North America
The western design for Corruption plays heavily on the dynamic between Samus and Dark Samus, with the two standing side by side against a beautiful backdrop set in space. Admittedly, we’re not sure why there’s a disembodied image of Dark Samus again in the upper left corner, but hell, we’ll take it.
Japan
Meanwhile, the Japanese variant features almost all of the main Corruption players, including Samus, Dark Samus, Matt Ridley, and three hunters: Rundas, Ghor, and Gandrayda. Oh, and the little Federation soldier in the back, over there. cute. We like the composition of this one, but does it hold up to the bright light versus dark dynamics of western design..? Hmm.
Thanks for voting! See you next time for another round of Box Art Brawl.
