Not every Nintendo game comes out. In fact, it’s not uncommon for a Nintendo game to be canceled behind the scenes without the public even knowing the game is even a thing. However, they are usually discovered at the end, years after the cancellation.
More often than not, Did You Know Gaming takes a look at these canceled games. For example, they released a video talking about a canceled Wii U Star Fox game called Star Fox Armada. The game would be a sequel to Star Fox 64, picking up where the Nintendo 64 game left off. It was suggested to Nintendo management, but they decided they didn’t want to do it. You can see a list of important notes, courtesy of Nintendo Everything, below.
- The art style would be like the doll aesthetic seen in early promotional images for the series
- It would pick up where Star Fox 64 left off in terms of story and gameplay
- Fox would never leave his ship
- After the defeat of Andross, General Pepper realizes that Corneria and the Lylat system must be rebuilt
- The war with Andross left the Cornerian government short of the resources needed to rebuild the military and civilian sectors
- Pepper hires Star Fox, and their mission is to search nearby systems for allies and resources
- Fox and his team will discover a threat even more imposing than Andross
- Designed to combine the classic gameplay of Star Fox 64 with a new open world and multiplayer mechanics
- In the single-player game, players would take on missions aboard the Great Fox and travel to planets, sectors, installations and asteroid belts to complete them.
- Earn money to give to Corneria, upgrade your ships or buy new ones like the Land Master Tank and the Blue Marine Submarine
- Choose how many resources to send back to help rebuild Corneria and how much to keep for yourself
- Planned optional side missions that would rely on the mercenary angle
- Less linear and more mission-based structure
- Fox can walk around various decks in the form of an interactive menu
- The GamePad would emulate a ship’s dashboard with information about the current mission, which parts were damaged by enemy damage
- For co-op, player 1 would use the Wii Remote and Nunchuck while player 2 would use the GamePad to be the ship’s gunner with a 360-degree view, repair and shield control
- You can play online with a friend or group to complete missions on multiple ships
- Battle mode planned with battles
- The name “Armada” comes into play as it encourages you to build your own squadron
- You can design your own anthropomorphic characters
- The game would have other online players fall on you like Star Wolf appeared in Star Fox 64, but this was optional
- DLC intended for new ships, missions, planets over time
