Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said in a conference call after the earnings report that the current Nintendo Switch will be the company’s main business for 2024. This comes after speculation that a successor to the popular device will launch later this year. He then said he would discuss any future plans at the next earnings briefing. Here’s what Visa Bloomberg said.
The existing Switch will be Nintendo’s “core business” through 2024, chairman Shuntaro Furukawa said on a conference call after the earnings report. The company’s plan for the next fiscal year will be announced at the next earnings briefing, he added.
“Nintendo has remained tight-lipped about any plans for a successor to the Switch, with Furukawa declining to comment beyond saying the company is always exploring new hardware and software. Nintendo would benefit from a hardware upgrade to contend with Sony’s growing PS5 user base and Microsoft’s cloud gaming efforts. The absence of boxed titles in this year’s software release schedule is seen as another sign that the company is potentially holding back releases until it sets up a new platform.”
