Oops, looks like the release date of the next DOOM game has been leaked

Every major Doom game has been released on the Switch and after last year's confirmation that the new entry would be a cross-platform release, it seems there's a real chance the next chapter could hit the Switch 2 at some point.

With this in mind, it appears that the official release date for DOOM: The Dark Ages now it's seemingly leaked – revealing that it will launch on the Xbox Series X|S in mid May 2025with other platforms likely to align with this date. This information was accidental shared by Gamekult ahead of Xbox's Developer Direct this week.

Again, there's no confirmation of Nintendo's new platform (yet, at least), but this new DOOM title will arrive this year during the launch window of Nintendo's Switch successor. This new medieval-inspired title in the hellish first-person shooter series is a prequel to Doom (2016) and DOOM Eternal, where you'll experience the original story of the DOOM Slayer's fury.

If you haven't played the existing games yet, both are available on the Switch eShop (and often on sale), so now might be the perfect time to check them out. Retro DOOM games are also available on Switch and even support free add-ons.

Nintendo confirmed last week that it will be hosting a Nintendo Direct broadcast April 2, 2025 for Switch 2.
