If you can believe it, it’s been a whole year since we first got our hands on Nintendo Switch Sports and immediately decided, “Huh, it’s the same as Wii Sports. Only smaller. And £50.”
Of course, some of these impressions were ameliorated somewhat by the free Golf add-on last November, but for the most part, many would agree that the game, while solid, still doesn’t feel like good enough bang for your buck.
So what would alleviate some of these concerns? It’s all well and good to have online play and a whole bunch of quirky non-Mia avatar options to unlock, but we feel the real way to bring people back would be to add another sport — because that’s what we all got the game for, Is it?
There’s even one extra arena (two, if you count the central building) on the main game selection screen that taunts anyone who cares to look hard enough, promising yet another sport but not telling us what it’s about. Come on, who would leave a menu with four options at the top and three off center at the bottom??
Of course, this is Nintendo we’re talking about, so we shouldn’t take menu gaps as confirmation that more content is coming (*cough* Mario Maker 2 *cough*), but it’s still fun to speculate.
Looking at the shape of the remaining building in the lower right (yes, let’s go that deep) and comparing it to all the events available in Nintendo’s previous sports titles, we’d say baseball or basketball would be in the game with a shout — general overview let’s say
Okay, yes, we’ve pretty much gotten there, but the possibility of adding another sport or two doesn’t seem impossible. Below, we’ve collected all the options from Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort that have yet to make it to the Switch Sports lineup (removing Resort’s ‘Swordplay’ as it’s basically Chambara) and put them into a poll to choose which one you’d like to see below. Of course, the next sport to be added (assuming there is one) could be something entirely new, so you can use the ‘Other’ option at the bottom and then hit the comments with your prediction.
