Arguably one of the biggest highlights of this year’s Game Awards show was Sega’s announcement that they will be bringing back five classic IPs including Jet Set Radio, Crazy TaxiGolden Axe, Shinobi and Streets of Fury.
In case you missed it, there’s apparently “more” to come, according to the official trailer. And in the PR for this announcement, it goes on to say that “upcoming projects, spanning a range of genres, are currently in various stages of development” with plans to release them “over the next few years.”
Here’s what Sega COO and CEO of Sega of America Shuji Utsumi had to say about the announcement:
Shuji Utsumi: “We’re digging into our legacy and reinventing several franchises to bring these games to more audiences around the world. Today’s announcement is just the beginning of our initiative. First and foremost, our ambition will be to create great games with unforgettable characters and worlds. We hope fans of all ages to look forward to our future as we release these projects in the coming years.”
Sega notes that more details on the already announced games, including “official game titles” for each, along with release dates and platforms, will be “shared in the future.” Another series which could return after the first five announced series Virtua Fighter
