In 2022, with just over a month until the scheduled release of Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp on Switch, Nintendo delayed the game indefinitely in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Fast forward to April 2023 and the game is finally out, although it seems like a delay May had an unfortunate impact on users’ ability to redeem I Nintendo Gold Points. As reported by an Australian website Vooksattempting to redeem points results in an error code that reads “You cannot collect I Nintendo Points for this software because the expiration date has passed”
In addition to the above, users on Reddit they also claim that they can’t redeem their gold points due to the expiration date. While most appear to be based in Australia, there are examples in other territories.
Elsewhere, however, one of our writers tried to redeem the points and actually succeeded, getting 80 gold points from a physical copy of Advance Wars 1+2.
So what exactly is going on here? Well, as Nintendo himself stated via official support pagegold points must be claimed “within two years
It is entirely likely, therefore, that certain batches of the physical edition may have been produced before the original release date of April 2022, meaning that the one-year redemption period has passed. This is of course just speculation on our part and is not confirmed at this time.
We will be conducting further testing on our end and will provide an update as soon as we are able.
