You may recall that yesterday Nintendo confirmed that Splatoon 3 would be getting an update on January 17th. A few months ago, it was confirmed that the update would arrive about halfway through the Chill Season game.
Well, the date has arrived and, as promised, Nintendo has released an update. After the update, Splatoon 3 should be at version 2.1.0. The official patch notes were released yesterday, but if you missed them, you can see them below.

- The performance of some equipment abilities has been changed.

This update focuses on battle-related adjustments.
A lot of adjustments to main weapons have been made to reduce the impact on some weapons from Splatoon 2 where the increased performance of equipment abilities was negated in Splatoon 3.
As for the changes in Ninja Squid, while we are mitigating the issue where players would lose sight of each other when shooting at each other from a relatively short distance, we are also intentionally keeping a way to approach opponents with longer ranges.
We’ve reduced the amount needed to fill special gauges for some weapons and within that group strengthened some frequently used short-range weapons to increase player options.
We’ve increased the amount needed to fill special gauges for some weapons, and within that group we’ve somewhat limited the tactics of using sub weapons and ranged special weapons.
We also made some adjustments to increase the manifestation of special weapons.
The next update will focus on new features and weapon balance for the start of the new season in March. The update is planned for the end of the current season.
- Fixed an issue allowing players to climb through unclimbable walls when using Squid Surge and Squid Roll at the same time.
- Fixed an issue where your movement speed would decrease if you were immersed in wall ink and move to any ground at a certain angle and continue to move while immersed.
- Fixed an issue where shots fired from the Bloblobber at a tower or other moving terrain features would hit and miss instead of hitting and bouncing.
- Fixed an issue where when the player moves or jumps with an open umbrella, the area shielded from incoming ink is about 1/60 of a second behind where it appears.
- Fixed an issue where the player falls with an open umbrella, gets stunned and the umbrella appears to sink into the ground.
- Fixed an issue where the area is shielded from incoming ink by an open umbrella slightly to the left or right of where it appears.
- Fixed an issue where the animation of the umbrella opening to protect against an attack would occur slower than the actual defensive effect would start.
- Fixed an issue where the umbrella closing animation was not playing smoothly during the umbrella opening animation.
- Fixed an issue where attacks to the back of the Crab Tank, such as Ink Storm, would bounce when the tank is in walking mode, even when hitting the player directly.
- Fixed an issue where after using Inkjet or Zipcaster without touching the ground, the player would land in an unwanted location.
- Fixed an issue where the Wave Breaker immediately disappears from other players’ screens if its placement height is close to the waterline.
- Fixed an issue where if a Wave Breaker is placed at a certain altitude, its waves would not be displayed in adjacent lower spaces within the area of effect.
- Fixed an issue where if a Wave Breaker is placed at a certain elevation, adjacent lower areas may or may not come into effect due to small differences in position by slightly increasing the area of effect in the lower area.
- Fixed an issue where rolling certain parts of the terrain in Eeltail Alley with the roller would cause the game to slow down.
- Fixed an issue when playing the Rainmaker mod in the Hagglefish Market where the score would not change smoothly in certain areas.
- Fixed an issue when playing the Splat Zones/Tower Control/Rainmaker/Clam Blitz mods in the Undertow Spillway that prevented you from dipping into ink in certain areas, regardless of whether they were soaked in ink or not.
- Fixed an issue when playing the Rainmaker mod in Museum d’Alfonsino where the score would not change smoothly in certain areas.
- Fixed an issue that allowed you to climb unwanted walls in Inkblot Art Academy.
- Fixed an issue when playing the Splat Zones mod in Mahi-Mahi Resort that prevented players from properly placing the Tacticooler in certain areas and prevented the player who attempted to place it from standing properly on the stage terrain.
- Fixed an issue when playing Rainmaker mode in the Sturgeon Shipyard where the score would not change smoothly in certain areas.
- Fixed an issue when playing the Rainmaker mod in MakoMart where the score would not change smoothly in certain areas.

- Fixed an issue in Wahoo World that allowed you to jump from the inkrail to the spotlight.
- Fixed an issue in Brinewater Springs where the trees in front of you were not showing as transparent.
- Fixed an issue when playing the Splat Zones/Tower Control/Rainmaker/Clam Blitz mods in Brinewater Springs that caused the score to not change smoothly in certain areas and “DON’T RETREAT!” be displayed even if you don’t retreat much.
- Fixed an issue in Brinewater Springs and Flounder Heights where ink fired from a height would disappear before hitting the ground.
- Fixed an issue when playing Splat Zones/Tower Control/Rainmaker/Clam Blitz in Flounder Heights that allowed you to jump from the inkrail to the water tank.
- Fixed an issue where you could receive an award but not the corresponding badge if there was a communication error at a certain time while Big Run results were being posted.
- If you were affected by this issue, you will be able to receive your badge after applying this update and restarting the game.
- Fixed an issue where the ammo stored in the Snipewriter 5H would disappear after placing golden eggs or shooting them with the Big Shot launcher.
- Fixed an issue that prevented bombs launched by Steelhead from properly dissipating when Steelhead was defeated by taking damage to its torso.
- Fixed an issue in Marooner’s Bay during low tide that made it difficult to draw ink over Flipper-Flopper’s attack area if he tried to dive near the surface of the water.
- Fixed an issue in Marooner’s Bay that caused slowdowns if players or Salmonids came into contact with certain terrain.
- Fixed an issue where if you saved a job scenario with a Grizzco weapon and replayed it as a private job, different Grizzco weapons would be delivered instead.
- Fixed an issue where when selecting a weapon on a stage and switching from a brella to another weapon, the brella would not work properly. It may not start or it may not protect against enemy attacks.
- Fixed an issue in scouting where game controls would not work after trying to start Turf War and Photo Mode at the same time when playing multiplayer.
- Fixed an issue in scouting where when playing with a timer and the player would be splatted, the photo pose would remain as the player pose if certain actions were performed.
- Fixed a replay issue when playing with a timer and the player was splatted, the countdown number was not showing.
- Fixed an issue where after a failed job history save on the Grizzco terminal, the list of completed jobs was not displayed correctly.
- Fixed an issue in stores where after pressing certain buttons at the same time, some controls would not work.
