The latest entry in the Super Monkey Ball series, the Nintendo Switch exclusive Banana Rumble, will be released on the 25th with a selection of paid DLC characters to go along with it. Joining the rumble are four classic Sonic characters, Axel from Crazy Taxi and Beat from Jet Set Radio. The pass also includes fifteen customization items based on other SEGA characters such as Shadow the Hedgehog and NIGHTS.
Characters can be purchased individually or all at once with the SEGA Pass, which comes with the Digital Deluxe Edition. Each of the six playable DLC characters will have their own strengths and weaknesses with in-game bananas being replaced with rings (Sonic and Friends), coins (Axel) and sprays (Beat). Sonic, Tails, and Beat were unlockable free ch aracters in the last game in the series (Banana Mania), but have since been turned into paid DLC.
Strangely, paid DLC characters Banana Mania, Hello Kitty, Suezo from Monster Rancher, and Morgana from Persona, all of which have been removed from the roster and are no longer available for purchase for the original game, are nowhere to be found in Banana Rumble. The first two were collaborations, but Atlus’ Persona series has been under the SEGA umbrella for over a decade. The disappearance of the trio could be a sign that another DLC is in the works, although so far no rumors have surfaced to suggest this.
Banana Rumble will feature an adventure mode that can be played solo or in local multiplayer, an online multiplayer mode that can host games with up to 16 players. and over 300 customization options for the colorful monkeys themselves.
