We have a very curious discovery after the release of its demo. This is a performance mode discovered in the game shortly after launch, but with varying results. This is what they share from Digital Foundry:
- Quality mode runs at native 1080p in dock mode and native 720p in laptop mode, with anti-aliasing.
- Performance mode keeps the same resoluti ons but removes anti-aliasing.
- Double-buffered vertical sync can cut frame rates in half when the game doesn’t consistently hit its frame-time target.
- John Linneman de Digital Foundry shares a surprising tip to improve performance on Switch as an “ultra performance” mode: set the console to 720p, which will directly change the game’s target render size to 720p.
- This fix resolves most of the performance issues, with areas that previously experienced frame drops now remaining at 60fps.
- Evening Star tested dynamic resolution scaling, but it didn’t provide the desired performance, so they opted to simply alter the maximum resolution on the Nintendo Switch.
Most of the game plays fine at 1080p60, but this “ultra performance” mode undocumented may be useful for those who wish to avoid performance drops.
