I’ve been on a bit of a finishing streak recently and managed to actually beat a handful of half-finished 2023 games that have been staring longingly at me for the past few months. Previously, I just covered Metroid Prime Remastered with a nice rug, taped a pot of plants in front of Sonic Superstars, and hung a picture like Chants of Sennaar, but now I actually managed to label them. I’ve never been in this position before. What comes next?
Truth be told, I think it will be Outer Wilds. Having been told for years “you have to play this game but I can’t tell you anything about it and don’t you dare google it”, I’m kind of intrigued to see what it’s all about. I also went back to Baldur’s Gate 3 grind this week after taking a break a little while ago. I’m around the 20 hour mark but I think I’ve solved about 0.1% of the game? Spending 19.5 hours in the character creator will do that to you I guess…

Asterix & Obelix slaps them all! 2 continues to provide endless barrages of Roman soldiers to hit Arcade Archives: Pole Position II it’s a real reminder of how much better I used to be at those games. I physical editions of Radiant Silvergun and Alien: Isolation are finally in my hands, which is the perfect weekend excuse to play them some more. And, despite the technical disappointments, I hope to continue to make progress on Batman: Arkham Knight as well.
The game of the week is none other than my favorite (non-wrestling) N64 game of all time. Jet Force Gemini wasn’t something I expected to drop on NSO, but then again neither was GoldenEye 007. It’s nice to see Rare properly represented on the service. So… Blast Corps when?

The Game Awards got me thinking about video games in 2023, so this weekend I’m going to spend some time looking at games that I think deserve a little more of my attention. So I’ll probably start with some Super Mario Bros. Wonder (after taking out Best Family Game) and then moving on to Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (which won Best Action/Adventure Game).
Another thing that surprised many Nintendo fans this week was a special event celebrating the fifth anniversary of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. I’ll be jumping on it and looking forward to the new ghosts and amiibo when they arrive early next year. Oh, and I’m looking forward to tearing it apart this weekend in 1080° Snowboarding as well.

There were one or two non-Switch related things that dropped during The Game Awards 2023 that I’ll check out, but otherwise, I plan to shine some light on gaming this weekend — especially “new” gaming.
I’m still addicted to Dave The Diver, and the lure of some DLC coming next week basically means that’s all I’ll be playing for the rest of the year. Oops…? What a shame it’s so damn good. And my Grandia II gameplay continues at a steady pace. I’m in a burnout phase at the end of the year — too much to play, work, deal with, etc. So I think coffee and a good book will actually be on the cards.
Our plans exist, and you? Drop the game you’ll be running in the poll below, then head to the comments to tell us what else you’ve got on your cards.
