What are you playing this weekend? (January 20)

It took me a while to fully settle into it, but Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown suddenly ticks a lot of boxes for me. That movement is so delicious! Also, I finished Celeste — at least I got to the big Wall of Hearts in the DLC and couldn’t bring myself to go through more pain — a few weeks ago, and now I feel like I have some kind of superhuman reflexes . Sargon is in safe hands (until I throw him into a boss fight and he dies Multiple times).

Plus, I’d really like to throw in some Golden Sun. Despite the GBA being the love of my life, I never got around to playing either of them at the time, so it will be nice to finally see what all the hype is about.

Unfortunately, I’m afraid the Switch will take a bit of a back seat this weekend as I’ll be booting The Last of Us Part II Remastered on PS5. It looks very familiar, but for £10, I can’t complain. I’m toying with the idea of starting to run on land, but then do I really want to go through the inevitable misery? Hmm…

If I can find some time to crack the Switch, then I’ll probably try to progress a bit more into Persona 3 Portable. It’s taking me a while to get anything done with it at the moment and I’m almost tempted to just wait for the remake. We’ll see.

We are now halfway through January, or as I like to call it, GOTY Podcast Catchup Month. I’m almost done listening to the recaps from the Nextlander guys and have half a dozen more to go.

Game wise, I downloaded LEGO Indiana Jones this week. After getting Temple of the Golden Idol for Christmas, I was on an Indy kick and decided to repurchase the Wii game I had traded in a while ago. I memory is weak, but I seem to remember that the constant whipping of enemies became tiresome. HOWEVER! Now I have children to indoctrinate, and I think it will be perfect when we are done with Ghost busters. I’ll try not to cry every time the Raiders March plays.

“Why are you crying, daddy?” “Oh, it’s just John Williams. You’ll understand when you’re older.”

I can’t believe it’s 2024 and Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is finally coming to Switch! I was going to play the PC version again on a harder difficulty, but now I’ll wait until this version arrives. Lots of fun with Hammerwatch II and more from PS3 Dragon’s Crown action. I hope to finish as well GTA 5 story mode this weekend leaving me free to put Legend of the Steel Empire on trial.

I game of the week is Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The demo has already removed all possible doubts about whether this will be a winner. It really is! Let’s imagine that in 2024 we would start with a Metroidvania that can compete with Metroid Dread. Well done Ubisoft Montpellier.

I’ll be watching a lot of GDQ this weekend, but that doesn’t usually make me want to pick up the games they play, to be honest! I think I’ll end up playing – and please don’t kill me for saying this – the end of Tears of the Kingdom.

I know, I’m a monster! But I kind of failed about 3/4 of the way through the game, not because it’s bad, but because, I don’t know, sometimes games take quite a long time and if you play them “wrong” (trying to min-max them or trying to squeeze 100% of everything) you can get out before you reach the finish line. It’s not about the quality of the game, it’s more like trying to run a marathon rather than moving yourself. Now that I’ve taken a long break, I’m probably ready to sprint that last bit!

Well, Golden Sun came along at the perfect time, didn’t it? At least for me. Continuing my 2024 goal to fill my RPG gaps, I’ll be playing both Golden Sun games over the next few weeks. Before you all yell at me, I have played the original but never beat it because i just didn’t click with it. However, this time I like it. It’s definitely a little archaic in places, but I like messing around with the class system, and the puzzles are simple but make you think.

Part of me is also toying with a rerun of Final Fantasy VII on the eve Final Fantasy VII Rebirthcoming out on PS5 at the end of February. I previously replayed part of Midgar 2020 Remake hit, so we’ll see how I feel. I can at least get through this quickly if I get back to Gaia.

It seems the world has gone crazy for The fading world, you know the game Pokémon with guns? While I’ll still be playing it over the weekend, it also gives me a hankering for some good old fashioned pocket monster fun. I reckon I’ll start a new nuzlocke playthrough of Pokémon Sword this weekend – yeah, sounds like a plan. Eating Palworld’s version of Wooloo made me feel bad about something, so now I’m going to protect that little fur ball.

Happy gaming, folks!
