The Maxi Maxi has two effective timepieces, Commodore 64 and Commodore Vic20. With older and older systems, many users may be "scared" when trying to update them. However, the benefit of these programs is their simplicity, so below we will show you how to update your firmware easily and quickly.
For this renewal process, you will only need an computer for internet accessand a USB pen drive up to 32 GB. If the pen drive is larger than this size, you should create a separation of 32 GB or less (it is recommended to use a 4/8 pen drive to avoid complex life).
Note: this same refresher method can be used upcoming firmware updates, given that although files change the same way.
Download the firmware and configure the USB pen drive
The first step is to access the official TheC64 website from PC via the Internet, where we can download the update file. To do this, simply click "Download" to download the latest version.
Before copying the update file to the USB pen drive, we must make sure it is formatted internally FAT 32 format. When we are done, we can copy the downloaded .bin file directly to the root of the pen drive. You don't have to change the name anything, it's important that the .bin is in the root directory of the pen drive.
Install the update file
Now we have to add the pen drive and the update file to TheC64 Maxi, and in the main menu to select below wrench icon (Tools).
In the menu that opens, you should select «System Information».
As soon as we install the program information menu, if we have done all of the above (.bin file in the pen drive directory and the same name it had when downloading), a screen will appear that tells us that we have a firmware update and if we want to install it. Just click on "Apply" and the update process will start automatically.
You will see that as soon as you submit the Application, the screen becomes darker
When this process is complete, TheC64 Maxi is restarted, with a new version installed. If you want to test it, we can simply go back to the Tools -> System Details, and we'll see if a new version is already installed.
Of course, with this simple process that usually doesn't take a few minutes you will already have TheC64 Maxi (and mini, works on all versions) in the latest version, with all the bug fixes, upgrades, and sometimes new games they've been able to put together.
