In a room less frequented – at least when I visited it – small, emerging companies present their technological projects. Divided into small stands, no wider than a stride, they are often in the shade of the impressive pavilions occupied by brands such as Samsung, Huawei, Microsoft or Xiaomi.
Giant screens, cyberdogs, cocktail robots, foldable smartphones and virtual reality attractions seem to overshadow these streets of stalls with brands that differ from each other only by name displayed at the top of each stall. .
It seems that all the journalists are rushing to cover the novelties of these mentioned big brands, however, in this eclipse, also mentioned, I could find such interesting technological projects which may be capable of improving people’s health.
Indeed, it is striking that health is one of the most recurring topics for these emerging companies. Some of them are working to develop technologies to help detect cancer, diabetes or cholesterol, among other things.
Next, I will tell you more about these MWC brands that are worth knowing.
The Smart Pacifier: A smart pacifier
You could say that Smart Lollipop has been able to design, as its name suggests, a smart lollipop. This makes possible a diagnosis by saliva of diseases such as diabetes and celiac disease in boys and girls. For now, only the diagnosis of these two diseases has been developed, but as Diana Ballart told us at MWC, the idea is to expand the list of diagnoses over time, as long as it is of a disease that can be diagnosed with a saliva sample.
In this way, the boy or girl could avoid a blood test, he would only have to suck a lollipop (there are several different flavors) and, while sucking, the saliva falls through an internal tube through which the sample needed for diagnosis can be collected. .
Biel Glassess: Glasses for the visually impaired
Smart glasses have been a fairly recurring item throughout MWC. However, Biel Glassess glasses are not intended for video games or entertainment, but are intended to be smart glasses capable of improving the mobility of people with visual impairments.
These smart glasses promise to be able to recognize obstacles in a person’s path and warn them in time so they can avoid them, as well as point out other things in their path, like traffic lights .
This Barcelona company has been able to design and manufacture a device that can help many people with visual disabilities. At the moment you can join a waiting list to be able to buy these glasses which could mean a very favorable change in the lives of many people.
InRobics: Rehabilitation with artificial intelligence
“Inrobics offers a new rehabilitation model using artificial intelligence and social robots to help people with functional or neurological limitations improve their quality of life”, specifies this Spanish company.
In short: a robot, which you can have at home, to help you with your rehabilitation tasks. It looks like a futuristic movie, however, it already exists, it’s real. Inrobics has designed highly autonomous robots to enable rehabilitation at home. They have programmed the robot with games and motivating dynamics so that each patient can experience their rehabilitation process in a much more pleasant way.
