We are not going to discover at this stage the advantages of SSDs over HDDs. Above all, the great strength lies in the read and write speeds. This means, for example, that the loading times of the operating system or video games are drastically reduced.
Its arrival on the external storage segment is somewhat slow. The problem they present is that the capacities are lower compared to external and more expensive mechanical drives. However, the time saved in data transfer is worth it.
This is the ASUS TUF Gaming AS1000 unit
The first aspect that stands out about this storage cabinet is that it belongs to the TUF Gaming range. These units are characterized by very good quality and services. These are robust solutions with advanced capabilities, but they don’t quite reach the top, since RoG products are aimed at this range.
The AS1000 unit is characterized by the fact that it is based on the USB-C 3.2 Gen 2×1 connector. How can it be otherwise, this device is compatible with desktops and laptops, but also with consoles.
This unit has undergone strict durability testing to ensure that it will not be damaged by liquid spills or drops. An interesting aspect is that it includes the NTI Backup Now EZ software (a $36 value) that makes backing up or recovering data easy.
This unit is characterized by the offer speeds of up to 10 Gbps
You can connect, thanks to the USB-C connector to any computer, the PS5 and the Xbox Seriex X, as well as a smartphone. In any case, with very high transfer speeds.
Includes military grade certification
We skipped one aspect, which is resistance to liquid spills and drops. Specifically, this unit has passed the MIL-STD-810H test, a test that measures the resistance of units, established by the United States military.
These tests subject the device to altitude tests with low pressure, temperature shocks, effects of rain with wind, humidity and fungi, exposure to sand and dust, explosive atmospheres, shocks and vibrations, among other tests.
As you can see, this storage unit has undergone a series of really brutal tests. All of these tests (and others the test includes) must be passed without damaging the unit. In the event of failure of a single test, it will no longer be possible to certify.
As of now, ASUS has not revealed the release date or price of the TUF Gaming AS1000 unit. Due to the capacity and the certification it includes, as well as the software, it could be around 100 to 150 dollars, more or less. Although there are no other units with these characteristics, there are others with a similar capacity that can guide us in the price.
