Nintendo has a new trailer for that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild episode on Tuesday. The publisher hasn’t announced an exact release date or title for the game yet, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating and having fun with the trailer.
The new reveal – which is a little over a minute and a half long – was jam-packed with all sorts of new information about the game. It showed us more about Link’s new powers and what his basic character design will be like. And while we got some good concrete information, the trailer also offers a lot of fodder for people who like to read into the finest details in order to develop theories about the new game.
It’s just fun to speculate and disassemble the trailer for possible links to previous Legend of Zelda games. So we decided to round up some of the biggest and most thought-provoking fan theories we’ve come across so far. Again, none of this is confirmed, but it’s a great way to see what fans are excited about in the upcoming game. As we get closer to launch, we’ll update this list with all the cool stuff we see as more information comes out and fans come up with new ideas.
Let’s play as Ganon in Breath of the Wild 2
?
Probably the most popular unconfirmed theory is that we are not going to gamble Breath of the Wild 2 as a link. Instead, we’ll be playing the game in a series as Ganondorf first. The bold theory would represent one of the biggest changes in the history of the Zelda franchise, but the idea has caught on with a lot of fans.
The basic idea behind the theory is that the “link” we see in the trailer is not actually Link, but the shriveled Ganon that we see at the beginning of the trailer. The idea is mainly supported by the visual similarities between Ganon and the character in the trailer, who, like Ganon, wears a one-shoulder tunic. Plus, we never see this character’s face.
Aside from these visual similarities, there’s also a bit of lore in Breath of the wild that could support this theory. On a tapestry we see a hero who saves the country 10,000 years from the events of disaster BOTW. The hero who saves the world looks like the zombie Ganon in the dark and the new “Link”. Once again this has led some people to think that there is some kind of connection.
These are the broadest moves of the theory, but if you want to go deeper you can check out this video from Kinda Funny Games which breaks down the theory in full.
Can we play as Zelda? Breath of the Wild 2?
At the beginning of the trailer, Princess Zelda can be seen falling backwards into a dark pit. While this may seem like a sign that we won’t play as them, some fans speculate otherwise.
Once again, that theory relies on us not knowing with 100 percent certainty that we are playing as Link, since we do not see his face. However, due to the design of the figure – they wear a tunic that covers half their chest – we can assume that the figure we see is not Zelda. Why? Because she probably won’t fly freely through Hyrule’s skies with a swab.
However, some people still hope that we can play as them and that at some point in the game we can decide who will fall into the deep dark pit.
BIGGEST Brain BotW 2 Theory:
-Both are wearing adventure outfits
-Zelda falls into the new trailer
– Notice only 1 torch, but Zelda holds it up to wake Ganondorf even though it has entered + falls without itWhat if…

Are we going back to Skyloft?
One of the most obvious connections between the Breath of the wild Sequel and this trailer is The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Link’s opening film from the trailer is pretty much the exact same scene in which Link falls through the clouds in Sky sword. The trailer also shows floating islands like in Sky sword. In the description under the official Nintendo YouTube account it says literally: “Return to Hyrule – and the skyes above”, which is a pretty clear connection to the floating island of Skyloft.
The cinematic parallels and the fact that Nintendo announced it The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword It’s getting an HD remaster for the Nintendo Switch while other Zelda games haven’t, which has led some people to speculate that Link might return to Skyloft in the latest game.
Is Breath of the Wild 2 connected The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess?
People also have to make visual connections between The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and the new trailer. For starters, there is a common color scheme between the portals in Twilight Princess and the footage with Left Arms in the trailer. Besides, people have pointed out that the design by Midna, who accompanies Link in Twilight Princess, looks similar to the new stone monster we see in the trailer.
Does Link travel in time? Breath of the wild Episode?
In the trailer, Link appears to be using some sort of time travel force to push a spiked ball up a hill. In addition, connections between Link’s new design and the hero depicted in the tapestry about the catastrophe of 10,000 years BOTW, led some people think that there could be a kind of time travel.
Oh, and a possible Easter egg in the Breath of the Wild 2 Pendant…
Like everything else on this list, this tidbit has not been confirmed as intended or useful. However, one fan believes that the music in the latest trailer is a reverse version of the song that was played during the original Breath of the wild Cutscene about the tapestry depicting the prophecy.
If you play a certain part of the new Zelda BotW 2 trailer backwards, it sounds like the music that plays during the old prophecy in the first Breath of the Wild.
I also noticed that they both sounded similar to the BotW 2 reverse reveal trailer, which still hasn’t been resolved pic.twitter.com/jfufHp6Ii2
