As I mix Basic, the expansion of the first major shooting campaign of 2019, Control, my mind trembled with a list of all the other things I was doing. He takes it out of the living room. Planning my office. Washing dishes. Playing Eternal Judgment either Crossing the Animals: New Horizons.
I liked the basic campaign of Control, the graphic display has passed Two Peaks with cosmic copper. So why am I unhappy with much of what was previously working?
Control he was trapped inside a Christopher Nolan film. I would lose sight of the brutalism of the brutalism-metets-origami building of its New York City office building, the Oldest House. After shooting so many who sent me on beautiful, straight paths, I got a sense of confusion. It's brilliant with the brilliance of the game. When other archers feel limited, forcing me to hide behind the obstacles and excellent car titles, Control feel me express. I fly into places, wrapping up pieces of land to clear a corpse.
I was expecting it Basic which has consumed me many hours in Expeditions game mode, killing hundreds of similar enemies, grinding out progress so I am ready for any monsters that roar under the old House. I needed a fix.
(Vol. Note: This review contains spoilers for the story of Control.)
Basic it goes on there Control campaign left. Jesse closed the deal between Hiss and Oldest House, accepting his role as director of the Federal Bureau of Control. Something big has broken into the roots of the center, and now the astral plane – with its large, white, open spaces filled with twisted stars and pyramids – has entered our sphere.
To the best of your ability, this means the bathroom door opens into a white, unfinished space. When it's worse, and more often, that means roaming around communities like those covered in trillions of red sand. There have been no good dispersal requirements that have sent you up, down, and the architecture of the Old City House.
Basic scanning a series of point-A-to-point-B points where you kill everything in a straight line, eventually collecting one of the four MacGuffins needed to unlock the final boss fight. Sometimes this means slowly working your way up the ladder, and sometimes it means meeting on an astral plane. If your favorite pieces are Control if it had been a war, this might have been enough! If you cared so much about the story and the setting? Yes, your mind can start to wander into all the activities you can do, or the best games you can play.
New dimensions are linear and highly multifaceted, interrupted by the addition of two new capabilities. You quickly unlock the power of the terraform and destroy the walls. But you can only use terraform platforms in certain areas and you can only destroy certain walls. When the gravity of the basic campaign allows to equip the entire room, with the new capabilities there is more to remove parts of the map. Want to get to the top? You need to turn on terraforming. Want to get that utility box covered with emerald stone? Time to unlock the potential for destruction.
Both of these new powers have limited combat objectives, too. You can use terraforming to cause boat traps, and you can shoot the ground to fall into deadly pits. But again, there is no freedom. Only certain areas can be traps, and only colored sites can be pits. Waiting for the spammed enemy to get into the mesh-free trap Control
Always, Basic it produces the spark of what made the first campaign so memorable. One side requirement is to manage television through a series of black garages. There is nothing special about enemies or the environment itself, but the world illuminated by the soft light of television is not sad and technologically impressive.
The fire extinguisher takes place in a large, square area with many offices overlooking the central chocolate bar. Fighting is not particularly fun – surrounded by enemies without a clear cover – however it looks wonderful. These times are rare.
I'm still optimistic about the expansion of the next issue, called YES. Remedy has proven time and time again that it produces some of the most imported archers and action games out there. Basic not a great studio job, but not a traumatic experience. This expansion reminded me of the Xbox 360 era of young shooters: not bad, but not prominently. It's playable, but it's also – and sadly – forgettable.
Basic expansion of Control is now available on PlayStation 4 and Windows PC, and will be released on June 25 on the Xbox One. The add-on was updated using the last download code of the PS4 register provided for 505 Games. You can find more information about Polygon's ethics policy here.
