There is still a little more than a month until Morning trailthe next expansion for Square Enix’s successful MMORPG Final Fantasy XIVwill be released in Early Access. We don’t know much about the next chapter of the game, except that it will be a kind of Summer vacation for players. This mystery is intentional, as the story is a big draw for players and Square Enix doesn’t want to spoil the fun. However, that hasn’t stopped the developer from giving us a few hints about some of the activities and experiences that players can enjoy in Morning trail outside the main plot.

The official page for the Morning trail The expansion went live on May 30th and includes some new information about the expansion’s raid series and field operations. We already knew that Echoes of Vana’diel, the large-scale Alliance raid series for Morning trail
“Here at the Arcadion, you’ll find a grand spectacle like no other,” reads a new promotional text on the site. “The greatest fighters in the realm will go fist against fist and magic against magic, risking their lives as the crowd howls and roars, and each fight is fiercer than the last. Enter the arena if you dare, and either become champion or fall forever in infamy.” That’s a long way of saying that the Raid Series will be a tournament arc where players can beat the crap out of cool enemies in an almost gladiatorial sport. It sounds like silly fun, and gives the developers an excuse to throw basically whatever they want at us. That lightness sounds in keeping with Morning trail
The other big reveal on the website is the field operations in the Shades’ Triangle. Just like in Shadowbringer‘ Bozjan Southern Front, it looks like Shades’ Triangle will be a large-scale instanced location with its own massive questline and large battles that require cooperation between large groups of players. Based on the description, it sounds like this will be a location like the Bermuda Triangle. “Even the most intrepid sailors would sooner abandon ship than steer into Shades’ Triangle,” the brief description reads. “Don’t be fooled by the lush and fertile island you spy on the horizon – men and ships alike have fallen for its allure and have never been seen again. Yes, the wisest choice is to dismiss it as a mere illusion. But of course, there are inevitably those who can’t resist the call of adventure.” I’m curious to see if these field operations will somehow involve ships, as we’ve seen plenty of them in trailers and it would fit with the tropical vibe of the expansion. In any case, it’s sure to be a great place to set up the new Pictomancer and Viper jobs
There are also a few smaller tidbits on the website, including a brief description of Beastmaster, the new limited job, as well as previously shown dungeons in the expansion. I’m excited to learn more about the new Ultimate raid, Futures Rewritten, as it will complement and expand on my personal favorite raid series from the game so far.
