Published last week, The first descendant is a new sci-fi third-person looter shooter from Nexon that feels like a mix of Warframe, Destiny, And The corporate division. But despite mixed reviews and controversy surrounding icons and in-game purchases, The first descendant has reached over 10 million players in just seven days.
The first descendant started on July 2 mixed reviews from critics and players on Steam. After spending about a dozen hours playing the new online shooter myself, I wasn’t very impressed. Sure, the game is fun and looks good in the moment, but the story and characters are forgettable and the endgame after completing the campaign is a tedious endeavor where you fight for materials to unlock new characters and equipment.
But a fun free game with loot and a cool grappling hook seems to be enough to The first descendant one of the most popular games this month. On July 12th the official First descendant Twitter account posted that the F2P shooter had reached over 10 million players in just seven days.
“Thank you all for your tremendous support and love,” the official account said. “This means the world to us. We will do our best to provide you with amazing experiences. I can’t wait to continue this journey together!”
While the developers behind First descendant While you’re probably happy about the large number of players who wanted to try out the game, it’s been anything but a perfect week for Nexon’s shooter.
First descendantIt is not a good, very bad week
Shortly after the game was launched, people pointed out like similar symbols in First descendant became icons in Fate 2On Friday, Nexon responded to this controversy by saying they are taking it “seriously” and promising to change the icons on calls Fate 2 a “world-famous looter shooter” that was “respected” by the developers and also inspired them “during the development process”.
Meanwhile, players have complained that First Descendant’The drop rates are too low for the much-needed resources to create and unlock new characters. According to Nexon, the drop rates are working as intendedbut suggested that changes would be made to the game to make farming and grinding easier.
There have also been criticisms of the game’s microtransactions. One major complaint is that shaders, or paints for cosmetics, have to be purchased over and over again for each new skin and character. Players have also linked the poor drop rate of materials used to unlock characters to the fact that Nexon is happy to take your money if you skip all that and unlock new characters immediately.
Currently, The first descendant still running fine on Steam as I write this, over 170,000 players currently looting and/or shooting in the sci-fi game. It remains to be seen if Nexon can improve the game and update it with new content frequently enough to keep all these players engaged. If not, it could end up going the way of Synchronizedanother sci-fi co-op shooter that Tencent just canceled after just one year.
