When it comes to platform video games, those of us not deeply immersed in the genre often think of the jumping plumber. As a casual gamer, I’ve had the chance to try out other titles that have intrigued me, such as Super Meat Boy, Fez, and Braid, each with their own unique blend of challenge and creativity. While I don’t consider myself an expert in the field, I’ve always appreciated the skill and precision these games require to master their mechanics.
In recent weeks we have had the opportunity to test Eden Genesis on Steam (available from August 6, 2024 on PC, Xbox and PlayStation and next month on Switch), the fourth and latest creation of the Talaveranos EternalGameStudiosknown by titles like Aeterna Noctis (analysis). And what can I say? Well, if you’ve seen the first of the two Sonic movies, you probably remember the scene where the blue hedgehog dodges Dr. Eggman’s missiles like it’s nothing. Well, Eden Genesis made me feel like Robotnik was throwing missiles at me, and like I wasn’t a blue hedgehog dodging them like it was nothing, but rather an unfeeling elephant trying to tap dance in a minefield.
Eden Genesis impresses from the beginning with its aesthetics cyberpunk and a fascinating narrative that lets you immerse yourself in the world of thought Leah

In terms of gameplay, Eden Genesis presents a significant challenge. Especially if you’re playing with a keyboard. Jumping between platforms, running on walls, dodging obstacles, and maintaining combos all require skill and precision. And I found myself getting quite frustrated in some parts of the game, especially in the beginning when I hadn’t yet got the hang of it and had to hit it every now and then, which made me want to pull my hair out and ask myself how… What is the meaning of life? Or… Why does the keyboard version seem to have been designed for a Machamp and not for a normal human with two hands and five fingers each? But that aside, once you get used to it (or get frustrated and end up opting for a controller, which I highly recommend for an optimal experience), you’ll be able to enjoy it much more. The difficulty It is designed to provide a constant challenge, similar to other platform games, that test the player’s skills without compromising the satisfaction of achieving successes.
The level design is another aspect to highlight. The maps are visually impressive, with an aesthetic that coherently combines futuristic and natural elements. The visual clarity during speed sequences is remarkable, which is important to keep the action fluid and the gameplay exciting. And as for performance, there is perfect optimization, with no errors, no bugs and extremely fast, almost non-existent loading times, which is crucial to immerse yourself in a game where every move counts.
Eden Genesis is a comprehensive game, especially for players who want to achieve S+ rating on every card. This gives it a high replay value. This ensures that the game will provide countless hours of fun (and frustration and itching). You might try Aeterna Noctis first to get used to the platforming mechanics. I think that mastering Eden Genesis requires significant skill, making it a game for those who enjoy pushing themselves to the limit.

When I started playing Eden Genesis it seemed like a decent game, nothing more, but as I progressed and got used to the controls it seemed better and better, not perfect but a game that is very worthwhile. I think that is very important, getting used to the controls. And it is not a game for everyone; the more time you invest, the more experienced you will become and the more enjoyable the experience will be. Then you will be hooked. Of course, I would recommend playing in short sessions to avoid irritation, unless you have a psychologist who charges you a flat rate like Netflix. In that case, be prepared for a few extra hours! That or you’re into the masochistic thing. In which case you should give it a try! This game is for you.
And finally, I almost forgot to highlight the game’s music, the sound effects and the cinematic scenes with voice acting. Everything is very well done and you can see from the opening sequence how well the sound section is maintained. There is nothing to say about it.
That’s all: Eden Genesis could be a standout title in the precision platforming genre this year. With a compelling narrative, solid performance, and challenges that will test even the most experienced players, this game is capable of providing an engaging and rewarding experience for those looking for a real challenge. If you’re passionate about games that reward skill and perseverance, this is definitely worth a try.
