The organizers of Gen Con, the largest tabletop gaming convention in the United States, plan to resume the in-person event in 2021. On Tuesday the organizers announced the dates for the show next year: 5-8. August 2021 at the Indianapolis Convention Center.
“Our goal for the new year is to hold Gen Con 2021 in person as planned,” said the organizers of Gen Con. “We are working towards this goal, with health and safety being the top priority. A variety of factors must come together for a physical convention to be feasible. We carefully monitor local and national safety and travel policies, health records, resource availability, and the advice of our best sages, scientists, and wizards. “
Gen Con was founded in 1968 by Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons, as the Lake Geneva Wargames Convention. The event, which includes role-playing games, board games, trading card games and more, was eventually sold to former Wizards of the Coast CEO Peter Adkison in 1997. The conference has been held in Indiana since 2003. This year in person the event was canceled in May due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
