The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind continues to be an RPG classic, known for its sprawling world, mind-bending role-based combat mechanics, and wild collection of characters. More than two decades since the game’s initial launch, its most iconic villain has ended up in an unexpected, delicious place. Yes, I’m talking about the Dagoth-Ur-Torte, the immortal delicacy for dreamers and a snack for only the most intrepid (or maybe the most naive).
The cake came about in the second week of February when Molly Carroll, head of PR and communications at Larian Studios, and her partner saw it an Instagram role
“My partner knows that I love Morrowind and pointed out that Dagoth Ur (Lord High Councilor of the House Dagoth, the Sixth House, the Tribe Unmourned) ACTUALLY wears a mask that would be really good on a cake,” Carroll told me via Twitter DM. “He was absolutely right and I had no choice but to do it. I also had a lot of apples to use up.” (Relatable.)
The baking process took about two hours, with 20 minutes dedicated to making the dough. She followed Smitten Kitten Flaky Pie Crust Recipe – which I mention in case readers want to make their own pretty Dagoth Ur – then chilled the crust overnight before moving on to the other stages.
Peeling, coring, and laying out the many small apples was the most time-consuming part. “I tried arranging the apples so that there were little clumps where his cheekbones are,” Carroll told me. “Trying to recreate the golden visage of Dagoth Ur only took another 20 minutes.” However, she encountered some design challenges as this was her first run on a cake with a crust more complicated than a lattice. It was difficult to cut out the nose, but she went ahead and used an egg wash to add various facial features.
When she posted a photo of the unbaked cake to Twitter on February 12, the reaction was outrageous. Fans commented on the idea and sent in tons of them too AI Dagoth Ur Clips – a recent meme where people use Elevenlabs AI language software to express the Morrowind Villain read random things.
Unfortunately, the actual baking process was a bit bumpy, with butter dripping from the crust into the oven and causing some smoke, resulting in an unfavorable smoky flavor to the apple pie. “The crust was slightly burned, which didn’t taste particularly good, but perhaps accurately reflected the spirit of Dagoth Ur after he was cruelly crushed under Red Mountain by his sidekick, Lord Nerevar,” Carroll said.
