Animal welfare There’s no combat in the traditional sense, but it doesn’t shy away from pitting players against intimidating boss monsters. In the northeast quadrant of the map you will meet a large chameleon that can, among other things, defeat you in one hit with its tongue. With a little trial and error, you can figure out how to overcome this big old lizard and continue exploring. Or if you don’t have time for that, here’s exactly what you need to do.
For those who just need a few quick tips, you’ll have to face the Chameleon twice Animal welfare. When you first encounter the green chameleon, your goal is to press the three yellow buttons and get through the gate below. Use the grass as bait to survive his tongue attacks. The second time you encounter the red chameleon, you have to trick it into eating the hedgehogs on the platform. This will defeat the chameleon once and for all, giving you one of the four flames you need to beat the first level of the game.
Of course, there is something more behind these encounters. So let’s break down this boss monster.
How to defeat the green chameleon
When you enter the room with the green chameleon, you will have a roof over your head that will protect you from anything the lizard can throw at you. Take this opportunity to get an overview of the location of the area, as you need to reach the three yellow buttons to open the gate under the boss. Once you’re ready, drop into the hole in front of you and let the games begin.
The chameleon will temporarily make two attacks. The first – and by far the most dangerous – is the tongue attack. It extends its tongue to wherever you are standing when the attack begins and eats the first applicable object it touches (unless it hits nothing at all). If it eats you, the game is over immediately. Luckily, you will notice that there are several patches of grass on the ground. If you hide under the grass, the chameleon will grab the greens instead and leave you safe.
Granted, you don’t need the grass to avoid this attack. Once the attack begins, the tongue’s trajectory is set, allowing you to jump or dodge after the tongue reaches out for a snack. This is especially helpful when you need to ride the floating platform above you, as your constant movement makes you a more difficult target for the boss.
The chameleon reports its second attack when its eyes turn red, which is accompanied by a distinct gurgling sound effect. After a short pause, the chameleon fires four projectiles from its eyes, following a set trajectory towards the ground. This attack is much easier to dodge, and during this time it does not trigger any tongue movement.
As for pressing these three buttons, you can easily reach the two on the bottom side of the screen with the Yo-Yo. You can also manipulate the chinchilla and jump on it to press the buttons, but this is of course a slower option. Next, jump with the chinchilla onto the small platform below the chameleon and wait for an opening to ride the floating platform above to the last button. It may be scary to get so close to the chameleon, but remember that you can use the grass for cover. Just don’t hang around after it eats all the grass there.
After pressing the last button, run to the gate and go through it. You lived to fight another day.
How to defeat the red chameleon
As it turns out, the above encounter was just the prelude to this biome’s real boss fight. The red chameleon guards the flame that you need to progress further in the game, and this time it’s a fight to the end. Once you land, you’ll see five hedgehogs circling the platform below you while the chameleon stares you in the face. To your right is a harmful darkness that will hurt you on contact. So stay in the middle and on the left side of the screen.
The chameleon’s attacks remain the same as before, but this time there is no grass to save you. Instead, you want to use what you learned from the previous encounter Attract the chameleon to eat the hedgehogs. The easiest way to do this is Tap the left button in front of one of the hedgehogs, moving forward at about the same speed as they are walking
That’s honestly all you need to do, but there’s one more trick that will come in handy here. When you reach the last hedgehog, you may find it difficult to line it up with the chameleon when it tries to use its tongue attack. Fortunately, You can use the animal flute to put the hedgehogs to sleep. This will temporarily stop the hedgehogs until you stop playing, which can help you control the flow of the encounter.
Still, I can’t emphasize this point enough: Make sure you only use the animal whistle when the hedgehogs are on top of the platform. Otherwise, the hedgehogs will fall to their deaths, making the encounter unbeatable.
If you don’t have the Animal Flute, return to the room marked with a giant egg in the center of your map once you have at least eight eggs. This will also unlock fast travel, so you’ll want this item as soon as you can get it. Checkout Our guide to unlocking fast travel for more informations.
As soon as the chameleon has eaten the last hedgehog, it retreats. If you follow him, you will find yourself in a room with a flame ready to burst. Congratulations on purchasing this important item!
On a side note, now that we’ve taken care of the chameleon, what if you went back to the room where you first saw the green chameleon? Just some food for thought if you plan on exploring everything you can Animal welfare!
