Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 release, cast and news so far

Godzilla’s recent return capped an excellent first season for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The season of the Apple TV Plus series came to an end on Thursday night with the release of episode 10, giving us a pretty clear picture of how the series relates to future Godzilla films. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for another season.

Unfortunately, we don’t have much official information about the series’ second season yet, including whether it’s actually happening or not. But until we get official confirmation that more Godzilla is coming to the small screen, here’s everything we know Monarch: Legacy of Monsters‘possible second season.

Is Godzilla: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 Happening?

We don’t know for sure, but Apple often takes a while to confirm new seasons. For example, there was an outbreak severance pay The official renewal of the second season did not come until almost four months after the end of the first season. The other good news for monarch What fans know is that Apple doesn’t often cancel shows after the first season, so it’s likely we’ll get a return for Season 2. But we’ll have to wait for official word before we know for sure.

When would the second season of Godzilla: Legacy of Monsters be released?

Without confirmation that the series is definitely coming back, it’s probably safe to say that it won’t be anytime soon when we get Season 2. Since the series hasn’t gone into production on a new season yet, we probably won’t get it until the second half of 2025, and maybe even later.

What does Kong do in the Monarch season 1 finale?

Great question – in some ways it’s probably there for the taking Godzilla x Kong: The New Empirewhich is coming in just a few months. But in the story, he’s just another Titan that came to our world.

The season 1 finale put everyone in a strange place – quite literally in the case of Shaw (Kurt Russell), who is trapped in Axis Mundi. Cate (Anna Sawai) and Kentaro (Ren Watabe) meet their grandmother Keiko (Mari Yamamoto) and together with May (Kiersey Clemons) they all manage to escape back to our world, only to find that the situation has changed drastically.

First of all, Kentaro and his father are now working with Apex Cybernetics. And they’re keen to evacuate the place where the Axis Mundi survivors have just landed because Kong is stomping angrily through the trees nearby.

What is Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 about?

Depending on when there is the green light, monarch could continue to be the ground-level connective tissue between the Monsterverse films. It could potentially build a bridge Godzilla vs. Kong And The New Kingdom, but it could also be about dealing with the fallout from the latter if the series wants to make a time jump. Whatever the case, the actors behind the main trio agree that they’re excited to see their characters take a more active role in the machinations of Monarch (and now Apex).

“I like that Cate finds meaning toward the end,” Sawai says of her character’s ending. “Because until then she’s running away from everything. And she’s kind of forced to find answers, and I think her goal has so much potential. I hope it is [a season 2]that we can see them taken [initiative] and walk with the confidence that her grandma has.”

Clemons hopes that in a new season, May will have to “take responsibility for her actions” if that happens: “I want this to empower her to decide whether she wants to be a person in power or not “not and what she would do if she had a lot of power.”

Considering how close May and Cate became at the end of season one, season two could lean into their relationship – possibly (hopefully?) by making it more overtly romantic.

“There is an attraction. But that’s not the focus of the story,” Clemons says. “It’s kind of cool because I feel like they just told us this That’s where we might want to get to, and I think it just happened organically, you know? We kept that in mind.

What other Godzilla content can I watch in the meantime?

While the wait for Monarch’s potential second season could be a long one, the good news is that there are plenty of great Godzilla movies to watch until then. While you can always catch up on the decades-long films Godzilla has starred in since his release in 1954, you can also just stick to more modern fare. There are Shin Godzilla from 2016 and 2023 Godzilla Minus One. Of course, you can also go through the rest of the Monsterverse again to prepare Godzilla x Kong: The New Empirewhich is scheduled to hit theaters on March 29th.
