NetherRealm Studios gave Mortal Kombat fans a first look at the gameplay of the next fighting game. Mortal Kombat 1, features the rebooted roster and reveals what Kameo Fighters is all about. There was also a lot of typical Mortal Kombat deaths, with beheadings, smashed skulls, broken bones and very wet noises, as fans have come to expect.

As was further proven during a match at Johnny Cage’s Hollywood home, Mortal Kombat 1 takes the franchise back in time, seemingly to the late ’80s/early ’90s, long before the story and cast of characters were bloated – and needed a reboot. MK1 Thanks to the familiar faces and a seemingly pared-down fighting game system, it feels like a back-to-basics approach to Mortal Kombat’s broad fighting game brand.
A wrinkle that keeps things fresh is Mortal Kombat 1is Kameo Fighters, a separate roster of support characters that features old-school versions of Kano, Sonya Blade, and Jax, based on footage shown by NetherRealm. These three appeared in their earliest costumes and only as assistant fighters. These pop-in and pop-out combatants help players during games and can be accessed with a single button press, Boon said.
NetherRealm hasn’t revealed how big that is Mortal Kombat 1 There won’t be a roster yet, but a menu screen for Kameo Fighters indicated that there were at least 16 characters in that particular roster.
Mortal Kombat 1 will be released on August 18th for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X. It is the first new game in the franchise since 2019, when NetherRealm and Warner Bros. were released Mortal Kombat 11.
