Garry’s Moda popular year 2006 sandbox Game that emerged from the modding scene surrounding Valve’s Source software recently received a takedown notice from Nintendo. That’s why Facepunch Studios, the developers of Garry’s Modare in the process of removing approximately 20 years of Nintendo-related content from the game.
In an update to Garry’s Mod‘S steam On the page, the developers explained: “Some of you may have noticed that certain Nintendo-related Workshop items have recently been removed. This is not a mistake, the takedowns came from Nintendo.”
The update continues: “Honestly, that’s fair enough. This is Nintendo’s content and what they allow and what they don’t is up to them. They don’t want you messing around with that stuff Garry’s Mod – That is their decision, we have to respect that and reduce as much as possible.”
Despite Nintendo’s litigious natureNot to mention that Nintendo fiercely protects its brand image and that of its mascots, Nintendo’s announcement comes as a bit of a shock. Nintendo-style add-ons seem to be slowly being removed a few months ago, although Facepunch only publicly announced that the company had made the takedowns today. The process has been “ongoing” since then and the developers are still working to remove everything, which is understandably a herculean task.
In fact, it’s so much that at the very end of the update, Facepunch jokes: “If you’d like to help us by deleting your Nintendo-related uploads and never uploading them again, that would help us a lot.”
