The next hero comes to himself surveillance 2 is not exactly new. players have a look at himan omnic activist named Ramattra, more than three years ago at the end of one over watch Archive event called Storm Rising. This event’s cliffhanger reveal of a menacing omnic allied with villain Doomfist finally paid off at Friday’s Overwatch League Grand Finals, when Blizzard Entertainment revealed the new tank-class character over watch 2 next month.
Ramattra will follow suit surveillance 2 Roster on December 6, debuting alongside the game’s second season. He will be the game’s 11th tank character and will bring a unique mechanic to the tank party: Ramattra has two forms, a normal Omnic form and a massive second form called Nemesis.
In his normal omnic form, Ramattra fights with a staff that fires projectiles and can create a barrier to protect his team. But when Ramattra reaches out and uses a cooldown ability, he becomes a gargantuan brawler capable of powerful melee attacks that strike fear into the opposing team’s “squishies.” Overwatch developers described Ramattra’s transformation as “scary” and “menacing,” transforming him from a fairly normal-sized hero to one of the game’s tallest. This shift into his more aggressive Nemesis form makes him deadlier, but it also makes him a much bigger target for attacks like Ana’s Sleeping Dart or Zenyatta’s Orb of Discord.
But Ramattra will offer tankers new gameplay opportunities, letting them choose whether to protect their team with longer-range attacks and barriers, or aggressively lead the attack into battle. His punches, despite being in Nemesis form, can penetrate barriers, said lead hero designer Alec Dawson, and countered “bubbles” from heroes like Winston and Zarya.
Blizzard didn’t reveal too much about Ramattra’s ability kit or his stats during a press conference Thursday, instead focusing on the omnic’s narrative place in the world of Overwatch.
According to Blizzard’s official origin story, Ramattra was built as a war machine for the Omnic Crisis, but he laid down his arms and sought rest alongside Zenyatta. For a time, Ramattra followed this peaceful path before eventually leading the Null Sector, fighting by any means necessary for the survival of his people.
“Omnics and humans tried to coexist, but as you saw in the lore, it didn’t go well for them,” said lead narrative designer Gavin Jurgens-Fyhrie. “Ramattra is tired of waiting and has grown impatient. He founded this organization with some allies to fight for the freedom of the Omnic people and their safety at all costs.”
As with Kiriko, it sounds like Ramattra will be available to players over surveillance 2Battle Pass from . Players who pay for the premium version of this pass will receive it immediately, while other players will need to level up the free version of the pass to unlock it. When asked if Blizzard plans to change the required Battle Pass level — which was 55 for Kiriko — for the release of Ramattra, art director Dion Rogers postponed, saying that the Overwatch team is regularly evaluating its plans. “It’s a constant conversation for our team,” said Rogers.
Ramattra will arrive in Season 2 alongside a new card that the devs said has unspecified ties to the new hero. More heroes, including a new support class character, are planned surveillance 2 in 2023.
