Scheduled to win the Game last night, Steam is holding a mass game demos until Saturday morning. There are many fun things to explore, but I really enjoyed it Wooden Nickel, a minimalist story drama set in the Wild West.
Wooden Nickel is designed for developers Brain & Brain, which have been previously popular Hot Sea Men. At this point and click game, you're playing as a tourist in a secluded town. Upon arrival you are greeted with local paper. With ads, the paper gives you the option of living in a small apartment or a nice hotel. From there, the daily program has attractions that can be visited or events around the city for you to explore.
The demo is short, covering two days in town. The day's paper covers your decisions, whether you can do it all in a day, just reading articles or advertisements give the impression of a beautiful city outside your door. Each ad or news bulletin makes a sound when you hit it, like the sound of a saloon, to make fun of what you can get.
Each smart location has a few points to work with. For example, a hotel and boarding house includes what appear to be complete copies Wald and The last of the Mochis you can learn. I picked up a mysterious package from the train station, placed some literature with some onlookers, and stumbled upon a warehouse stolen from the forest. As in Hot Sea Men
Wooden Nickel I don't have a release date yet, but I expect to play more with it. Playing Hot Sea Men on my phone it was a nice, peaceful way to get to my hard work in the morning, and I can see Wooden Nickel alike.
