The Behemoth was literally killed. From this afternoon you won’t see anymore Halo infinityThe worst mode (capturing the flag) is displayed Halo infinity‘s worst card (Behemoth) in ranked playlists. gloriole Senior Community Manager John Junyszek confirmed the news in a post over on the Halo waypoint forums today.
Behemoth, one of the 10 multiplayer maps available in Halo infinity since its launch last November, has split, to say the least. How many of gloriole‘s most timeless cards, it is symmetrical. A central structure surrounded by an open area is flanked by two towers and a handful of vehicles. Behemoth is undoubtedly an absolute smash hit for some playlists; In Fiesta mode, which randomizes gear spawns, the unpredictable range of potential vehicles makes for some really exciting matches. But in the ranked playlists everyone seems to only use the Battle Rifle.
“We’ve seen enough data to show us that the map doesn’t work in the rankings [playlists] as intended. Most of this data revolves around spawning and effective cover around the map,” Junyszek wrote. “Spawn at the perimeter of the bases with direct line of sight to the flag stand, additional [battle rifle] begins, creates a more frenetic pace of play than desired.”
Junyszek continued, “There also seems to be a lack of viable cover opportunities across the map, which is made worse when all players are leading a [battle rifle].”
Since Behemoth is currently not playable in any of the other ranked modes – Oddball, Strongholds, or Slayer – the map is effectively removed from ranked play. However, developer 343 Industries plans to tweak and test the card’s issues and will add it back to the rotation if they find it works as intended.
This adaptation has been a long time coming. Basically everyone hates behemoth Search social media, and you’ll see day- and week-old comments from players teasing the mp mixed in with messages from others enjoying today’s news. Just yesterday, gamers were flooding the internet with comments like “Behemoth CTF… took my life for 15 years” and “FUCK BEHEMOTH”.
Some of the best gloriole players around are also happy. “Behemoth is finally being removed Halo infinity ranked!”, the semi-pro Sylvanic wrote. “From the entire Halo community, see you soon, Behemoth,” reads
I’ve played a lot in the last three months Halo infinity and consider myself sympathetic to Behemoth, albeit awkward. It’s a solid opportunity card. (See: fiesta tank, boom.) But in my experience, ranked matches on Behemoth tend to end overwhelmingly unbalanced and unfunny, certainly more so than the well-calibrated, competitive matches that make up so much ranked play (well, provided a player does not surrender). Since capturing the flag scores five points in leaderboards, rather than three in casual playlists, you’ll also have to play through the entire game. It’s unbearable.
Now if only we can convince 343 to remove Behemoth from the tactical Slayer too…
