Expend4bles
Where to see: Available to stream on Starz
Genre: Action comedy
Duration: 1h 43m
Director: Scott Waugh
Pour: Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson
The fourth entry in the cheeky franchise features the best action sequences yet, handing the reins to Jason Statham and bringing in Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais for some real martial artist extraordinaire.
From our review:
Expend4bles pushes the franchise to its limits, and honestly those limits don’t go very far. There’s a certain level of self-awareness in Expendables films that can make their paper-thin plotting and characterization excusable – after all, they’re just a reason to see certain action legends interact with one another. But in the more than ten years of the homage, the series has not set its own stylistic accents. “Mission: Impossible” movies have their signature stunts, “Fast and Furious” movies have their unlikely uses of cars, but “Expendables” has no comparable calling card. Fans have nothing to look forward to except Jason Statham’s resilient charm and Sylvester Stallone’s swagger. And honestly, there are plenty of other places for people who want these things.
