The DC film universe has long been dying. Since the original justice league, it was clear that things weren’t quite working out and that the overarching vision for the future of these franchises would never be realized. And while every movie since has felt like it could easily be the end of the cinematic universe or a fresh start for it, especially since James Gunn and Peter Safran officially took over DC movies and started creating their new version of the universe, is it finally feels like things are coming to an end. Shazam! 2The latest trailer of was released on Thursday and seems to give almost the entire film away. There are big revelations and huge fights, lots of jokes and even what seems to be the climax of the film. But none of it feels like it matters, either dramatically or as part of a larger world.

Even if the first Shazam! Having proven to be one of the more entertaining and effective DC efforts of recent times, it’s hard not to feel like the sequel is the random final episode of a TV series that was canceled in the middle of a season. Sure, it could still be fun, but it’s hard to look forward to what’s next more than what never will be.
