Spy x family, one of the most popular and acclaimed manga in recent years, is finally getting an anime. CloverWorks Studio and WIT Studio, the studios behind the project, announced the series on Sunday.
Spy x family follows a secret agent named Twilight who tries to infiltrate the government of an enemy state using a fake family as cover. While Twilight is scared of letting his fake wife find out he’s a spy, she is secretly an assassin and her “daughter” is a clairvoyant who just wants to keep her new family together. The series was written and illustrated by Tatsuya Endo and began running in 2019. Since then, 55 editions of the manga have been published.
The adaptation will be a co-production between CloverWorks Studio and WIT Studio. CloverWorks has had a number of hits lately with shows like Promised Neverland, Horimiya, and Rascal doesn’t dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. Meanwhile, thanks to the first three seasons of one of the most respected anime studios of the last decade, WIT Studio has become attack on Titan, the Old Magus Bride, and Vinland saga.
Spy x family doesn’t have an official release date yet, but is expected to debut in 2022.
