Video games are definitely not real life. I get that. But it’s still weird to realize that certain game characters that seem to have been around for ages aren’t that old after all. For example, according to a new video from Nintendo, Mario’s nemesis is –bowser– is only in his thirties. Some of you may not be taking this news well.
The Super Mario Bros. franchise began publishing the original in 1985 Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The game was a sequel to the 1983 arcade game Mario brothers.-was a smash hit and created a series that still exists today. In fact, just a few months ago, an animated film based on the series hit theaters broke box office records included. You’ve probably heard about it. And while Mario and Luigi are the main protagonists of the series, the main villain in most games is King Koopa himself: Bowser.
Oddly enough, Bowser — that iconic, larger-than-life villain — isn’t some 200-year-old ancient lizard monster god or whatever. Instead, he is only 34 years old.
As discovered for the first time in the fan blog Super Mario broth, a newly released unlisted video from Nintendo of America briefly shows Bowser’s year of birth. The video is a walkthrough of creating a Nintendo account and uses Bowser as an example. It shows him entering information about himself, including his date of birth: February 5, 1989. So Bowser is 34. Also in the same video, we see Bowser Jr.’s birthday is March 3, 2010, making him 13 years old.
As highlighted by Super Mario broth, this is the first time either of the characters — Bowser or Bowser Jr. — have announced their birthdays. Now you all know when to buy Bowser Jr. a birthday present from, I don’t know, some Roblox
Of course, there’s the caveat that this isn’t canon Super Mario Bros. Video game, just an instructional video from Nintendo. So perhaps the age was chosen at random or coincided with another event in the company’s history.
That would explain how Bowser was doing according to the date in that video born four years later he appeared in the first Super Mario Bros. Game on NES. Or maybe that was another Bowser who died and was replaced by other Bowsers. It’s getting dark, so let’s stop here before many of you realize that you’re somehow older than Bowser. Oops. Forgiveness.
