Industry photographer and artist Syd Mead has died at the age of 86 due to complications of lymphoma cancer, Polygon can confirm.
Mead is best known as a concept artist in science fiction films like Blade Runner. After working in the automotive industry for some time, Mead worked as a photographer Star Trek: Motion Picture.
In his long career, Mead worked in films like these The aliens, Function: Impossible 3, again Blade Runner 2049. His work has also been featured in video games: Aliens: Colonial Roads, Cyber speed, Manager Wing: Prophecy, again CyberRace. He is very much looking forward to seeing his detailed, influential work.
Mead announced his retirement in September after 60 years of formation. Art Directors Guild he is expected to honor Mead and his work and the Cameron Menzies Award during the February 24th annual Guild Awards.
Much of his film work is described internally Syd Mead Movie Arts: The Futurist Vis, a hardcover book released in 2017.
