StarfieldBethesda’s massive, 1,000-planet space role-playing game was released on September 6, 2023. After years of considerable hype, the game has achieved success a somewhat rocky first year. However, Bethesda has promised new features, important bug fixes and more in 2024, opening the door for Steam users to test these in beta new features and improvementswith the first update coming on January 17, 2024.

Bethesda promises more than “100 fixes and improvements”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter)Bethesda says the full updates will begin rolling out to all players on all platforms around January 31st. But if you’re in the Steam Beta channel, here’s what’s coming to you on January 17th:
- Fixes to the Eye of the Storm quest that prevented the story from progressing
- Temples in Into the Unknown should display correctly
- Additional widescreen support
- Improved textures, lighting and shadows
- Fixes for planetary ring shadows and other visual space phenomena
- A solution to fix asteroids getting stuck on ships
- Ship hatches are stubbornly inaccessible
While next week’s beta won’t include any brand new features such as “new ways of traveling” that Bethesda has been teasing for the past few weeks, fixes to quests that keep getting stuck are perhaps among the most welcome changes this time around. Bethesda had previously promised to deliver updates approximately every six weeks starting in February. Expected features include city maps, additional ship customization and building options. Starfield There are also plans to get some story DLC with Shattered Space. Not much is known about this expansion, but it is expected to be available in the first half of 2024.
