Destiny 2 begins a new season on February 9, called Season of the Chosen. It will continue the Season of the Hunt narrative and introduce a new leader to the Cabal, Caiatl. Meanwhile, many of the in-game activities will get new loot and ways to progress. Trials of Osiris will get new weapons, armor, and even cosmetics with the start of Season 13.
Almost a year ago, Trials of Osiris launched in Destiny 2 for the first time, replacing Trials of Nine. The gameplay saw some changes compared to its original Destiny counterpart, primarily in the loot systems. The loot pool was made up of gear available in Destiny 1, with a few cosmetic tweaks and perk changes.
Bungie fixes this by adding new weapons to Trials along with new armor sets, a Ghost, a Ship, and a Sparrow. The new loot will become available with the first Trials weekend of Season 13 on February 12. A selection of updated loot will be available each week as the player can achieve their victory milestones.
However, the weekly Saint-14 engram reward will also be available to those who are unable to rack up victories in Destiny 2 trials. This reward progresses even if the player loses all their matches and awards a copy of the available item from the three wins in a given week. Thus, even the least skilled players can test out the new loot by completing the weekly engram rewards.
As for the new weapons, there is a hand cannon, sword, and pulse rifle that may or may not be a revamped version of The Messenger. The Hand Cannon appears to be solar powered from the game’s trailer. The sword is also solar, but more importantly, it uses the Caster Frame, a rare sword archetype that can fire area-of-effect projectiles.
These weapons will also have Adept versions, following the same Adept weapon system introduced with Beyond the Light. In addition, it will be possible to apply the exclusive shader that comes with the Adept Trials to any Adept weapon, such as those that come from Nightfall Strikes. Adept weapons will start dropping from the Flawless Chest starting week two of Trials, and the first week will only drop Adept armor and mods.
The new Trials of Osiris cosmetics work a little differently this time. The new Ghost’s chance of dropping increases as the player wins matches or completes all three, five, or seven weekly triumphs and flawless milestones. The chances of the ship and sparrow falling only increase when the player is flawless.
