Fasten your seatbelts, time travelers, as we’re ready to share more exciting details about Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate, coming to PlayStation VR2 in 2024.
The technology offered by PlayStation VR2, along with the power of PS5, has allowed us to explore bold and exciting new ideas to truly elevate player presence, create more realistic interactions, and create richer worlds to explore. Let’s dive a little deeper into these features.
Stunning new visuals
Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate has had a facelift. Completely overhauled visuals for PlayStation VR2 create richer and more beautiful worlds, elevating our visuals to new heights. This includes an all-new lighting system and a complete overhaul of all of our NPCs, which have been lovingly recreated and designed to look more realistic and look better than ever.
Full Avatars
Complete, world-class avatars allow you to embody characters through time – seeing yourself as those characters for the very first time. We’ve created a state-of-the-art player avatar system that not only accurately depicts hand and head movements, eyes and eyelids using the new eye-tracking feature in PS VR2 . We also created an AI system where your legs react to the context the player is in and describe the relevant required movement (climbing, hanging, falling, bending, crouching, etc.). Player avatars can now have physics-based “strength”. This ties into our new “Physical Interaction Framework” and means that player avatars can vary based on their strength when interacting with the virtual world around them.
Not only are we creating more immersion and characters that work better, but they’re also visually stunning because we’ve created a bespoke system that takes advantage of the beauty of Epic’s meta-humans.
adventure platform
Our all-new physics-based platforming takes action-adventure to a whole new level, giving players the ability to explore and interact with our worlds in new and creative ways. Swim, jump, crouch, climb, zipline and swing through a variety of rich worlds in true adventure style. This system is completely physics driven, with no tricky forced transitions or connecting to a “rail”. It’s just you and the world. The freedom this gives allows players to feel much more fearless and adventurous on their travels.
A next-gen physics-based world
Powered by Unreal Engine 5 Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate brings an innovative new take on physics. We’ve created a new system that can simulate “real world” mass and velocity when grabbing objects. All of this also includes the player’s avatar and strength. All of this is made even more real through the PS VR2’s advanced use of adaptive triggering, headset and controller haptics. We even have a new proximity base head haptic system that we can’t wait to share with you.
All new fights
An all-new combat system has been designed around a new set of weapons, ammo, and enemies allowing players to be more creative in how they resolve the different combat situations they encounter over the course of the game. time. It’s up to a player to decide how much (or little) action they want to take to provide much more player agency.
Bigger, more open worlds to explore
Wanderer’s worlds have embraced changes to player mobility and now offer much more freedom to explore larger areas and discover surprises as you venture through the ages.
New content, levels and improved time persistence
Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate also introduces three exciting new levels to our existing worlds and plenty of new content, providing plenty of opportunities to explore vast and rich worlds. Along with this, we’ve overhauled persistence between levels for better continuity when time traveling – creating a seamless experience because when a player leaves a “time era” (world) and returns, things are exactly as they are left them, which means objects, action, everything.
New time travel and watch features
Even Samuel (your trusty watch companion) got a makeover. With a new user interface, storage system, time travel upgrade and a nifty new feature – the Echo Diviner – allowing you to locate lost items, Samuel is now more valuable than ever.
Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate is richer, more immersive, more beautiful, and full of action and adventure to deliver a truly reimagined game for the next generation of VR. Stay tuned for more information ahead of its release on PS VR2 next year.
