Resident Evil Village is a worldwide phenomenon, the Capcom title is now available and has become a success as expected. Now we know thanks to information revealed by Capcom that the most recent installment of the zombie saga has already reached the 4 million units sold around the world.
This news comes almost a month after Capcon revealed that the title had reached three million units sold worldwide. That is, at this rate the game sold a million copies sold in just one month and is at the same rate of sales of Resident Evil 7, the best-selling title in the entire saga with 9 million copies sold.
If it continues with this sales rate, it is likely that Resident Evil Village will surpass Resident Evil 2 Remake for the second place in sales in the history of the saga with more than 5 million copies sold. In the same way, there are still about 5 million copies sold to be able to overcome Resident Evil 7 in the first place, but taking into account the media impact that this delivery has had, it is possible that it will achieve it within a few months.
Marketing as the key to the success of Resident Evil Village
Capcom had to face a lot of problems throughout the entire Resident Evil Village ad campaign. One of the main problems was when several videos were leaked that included the end of the game. In order to overcome these problems, marketing was one of the most important elements in raising user expectations.
The impact of Lady Dimitrescu was immense within social networks and in fact, the first mods that reached the PC version were in charge of modifying this character with others and even the actress who lent her image to the character was surprised with the result.
New supernatural creatures within the franchise
Another key to the success of the game has been the presence of supernatural creatures such as witches and werewolves that had not previously been seen in the saga. Now we will have to face other types of monsters beyond the classic zombies that have always been present within the saga.
Another element that is helping the game sell very well is that Capcom struck a balance between action and horror. This is something that had been requested by users who considered that the previous installment had been very scary.
The presence of many easter eggs
The presence of several Easter eggs is another thing that always generates sympathy within users. One of the most striking is that Ethan is still without his hand after the events of the previous installment. The game’s opening scene is a clear tribute to what was seen with Resident Evil 4 that surely the most loyal fans of the saga will also have found.
One of the characters who is back is the remembered peddler from Resident Evil 4 who helped us so much by selling us supplies in specific locations. Finally, the Umbrella logo also appears in what is a clear reference to the evil company behind all these events.
The fact is that by being sold as the continuation of Resident Evil 7, the impact of this new installment has been much greater than expected by Capcom itself and it is likely that it will continue to sell many more copies in the near future.
