Last year, as part of an early test, I visited the fictional island of Aetérnum to explore the world of the depraved for the first time and to familiarize myself with the peculiarities of the New World. Thanks to a PvP-centric nature, the MMO has already won over a few players, but at the same time the demand for a larger PvE (PvE) facet began to grow, and that was one of the reasons the Amazon Game Studios title had to be around a whole lot Year to be postponed. We could spend hours studying the game’s content, so let’s explain what an experience the New World has become.
His story leaves players on the mysterious island Forever, and soon you will begin to pursue the typical goals of every MMO: you have to perfect your manual skills, fight your way through numerous dungeons, defeat an endless number of increasingly difficult opponents and make a living with one character at a time, more elegantly thanks to the equipment, that you will find during your adventures. In New World, research is done with a substance called. rewarded Azoththat allows you to travel quickly and refine your articles (among other things). This resource gives the island the magical properties it possesses and ensures that the dead are not like that, but are resurrected, often in the form of hideous monsters. We find different types of enemies with an equally large arsenal of weapons, only matched by the enormous amount of craftsmanship.
The craft is divided into several categories: manufacturing (armor, cooking, jewelry), finishing (foundry, leather goods, weaving) and collecting (carpentry, gathering, fishing). That adds up to overall 17 different skills You have to go well above level 100 if you want to access all of the game’s resources and content. On the other hand, There are 11 different weapon types and there is no class system
As an RPG fan and occasional MMO player, I was particularly drawn to the universe, this colonial environment and the beautiful design of New World. However, most of the topics covered in the game are nothing more than an explanation of why certain things work the way they do. The element Azoth, for example, is the reason for this Players and monsters are revived. The dangers of Aetérnum and the almost desert-like world are just a narrative solution to make way for the player-driven economy. Eventually, narrative becomes one of the least interesting factors in the game. With a few exceptions, the missions are set up as standardized errands, and that’s not a good thing.
However, these missions provide an incentive to explore the island’s many locations. Especially at the beginning of your journey when they are designed as some sort of interactive guide to explain how the PvE and PvP elements work. Choosing your faction, the most important one for anyone who wants to enjoy PvP activities, is made through one of the first missions you undertake. you can choose between Looters, the Syndicate, or the Bund, all in constant conflict over Aetérnum and how to use the Azoth.
One level below the factions is that Companies (also known as clans or ‘guilds’) that allow players from the same faction to form or join different groups of people. Each area on the map will sooner or later be conquered by a faction (and a company) after that area has been conquered. Company leaders rule a local area and their duties include improving crafting tables, setting taxes for their team and enemy factions, or ensuring that the influence of other factions within that area is kept within reasonable limits. If a faction gains too much influence in enemy territory, a war begins. 50 versus 50 player battle in which the winning team retains or takes control of the venue.
Even as a single player without the backing of a company, these systems quickly awaken team spirit. You are encouraged to complete many missions in hostile areas to begin a war
It’s certainly a pretty daring approach to the player base as it can keep non-guilds out. If personal relationships set the tone, New World may not get casual gamers what they were looking for. When my faction, the Syndicate, started a war against the Raiders last weekend, I signed up for the moment and spent several hours honing my spear, ax, and musket skills. In the end I was not called to fight and the second attempt to enter w as ruined by an eternal line of servers.
Even if you cannot participate in these activities, you will find things to do. For example, I love the incentive to be able to build my own place in a virtual society of players. I never thought that even after spending hundreds of hours on Animal Crossing: New Horizons, mining and recycling raw materials could be so fun after so many hours with them. Fishing, collecting plants or making furniture for the household, the days have passed by in a flash. All of the social areas of the game can be used to purchase your own space if that part of the game appeals to you.
So far, my experience with New World has not had any major errors or major performance hitches, but the three-hour queues or more getting to the server is still a serious problem. Time goes by and it still isn’t fixed. In addition to the 50v50 Wars, Expeditions (a variant of New World PvE dungeons) and Outpost Assaults (a mode in which two teams of 20 players fight for control of valuable fortresses and resources) provide a little more variety. Then there are Invasions, a PvE version of factional warfare in which an area is invaded by the corrupt and must be defended. As you can see, the variety of PvP and PvE content in New World is quite large.
Although modes like Outpost attack or invasion They require a high level and that requires a lot of “grinding”. These activities provide good long-term motivation that hopefully covers most of the player’s preferences. So far, I’ve had a lot of fun developing my manual skills and collecting the unusual items of clothing on expeditions. Soon I will be able to compete against the highest ranking opponents in Aetérnum, but at the moment I am enjoying a lot in my little house in the Riscos del Monarca, and plan my routes to collect all the iron I need for my furniture.
I am very curious to see which updates Amazon Game Studios is preparing for the future of the community and, above all, whether they take into account the ‘feedback’ from this community. In the long run, New World could face significant problems with its heavy focus on “grinds” and corporate warfare, but it is not right now. Amazon Game Studios has embarked on a new world with a very solid foundation that offers a lot of stability, but is not entirely free of errors. In the end, the studio kept its promise and significantly expanded the game, both with PvP elements and PvE activities such as crafting, expeditions and the housing system. In addition, they have created one of the most beautiful environments to be seen in an MMO. Is beautiful. Both the sound and the picture area make each area a show. The final version of New World didn’t give me the MMO I was expecting, however my journey through Aetérnum is far from over.
