Kotick was one of the main exposure targets of The Wall Street Journal, which claimed that the long-term CEO was well aware that his company was fired for abuse of his position.
Since the report was released, many industry leaders have expressed their concerns about what is happening with publishers. PlayStation’s owner Jim Ryan told the staff that he did not believe that “Activision Blizzard’s response statement correctly resolved the situation.”
Now, according to an internal email obtained by Bloomberg, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer also stated that the leadership team is “disquieted and deeply disturbed by these terrible events and actions.”
In fact, Spencer went further, suggesting that Xbox may go beyond simple condemnation, saying that platform owners are “evaluating all aspects of our relationship with Activision Blizzard and making continuous active adjustments.”
Activision Blizzard’s matter seems to have reached a turning point, and many people bluntly called for Kotik to resign. Some shareholders do, but the board still supports Kotick. This is just the latest episode of the company’s ongoing disputes with state and federal agencies over a culture of abuse of women, discrimination, and protection of abusers.
