It has been common practice for a number of years for any device equipped with a screen to be given a Doom port. It ranges from the screen of a refrigerator to the Touch Bar of a MacBook to the Game & Watch Super Mario Bros. It’s still fun, practicing is no longer really surprising. And instead of porting Doom to another unexpected machine, one gamer decided to make the famous FPS playable on a device that was absolutely not originally made for it.
A gamer with infinite patience had fun making Doom playable on a rotary phone. It works and it was immortalized in a video that circulated on social media. On the latter it is actually possible to see how a player controls his character with an old phone.
Christmas on the balcony, Doom on the clock
As the video shows, the playability of Doom on the rotary phone is far from optimal. It takes a long time to get around. For the data set, 1 corresponds to the Ctrl key. The numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 correspond to left, right, top, bottom, and space, respectively.
It remains to be seen if the creator of this mod is motivated enough to go through the entire game like this. And while it will never be easy to play this way, there are certainly ways to tweak it. For example, by allowing them to advance automatically until a new command is entered.
Doesn’t Hugo Délire want to?
Unfortunately for the curious, the process to achieve this result has not yet been clarified. So we don’t know at the moment how this masochistic gambler acted. Or why he wanted to play Doom on a rotary phone. In conclusion, it is to be hoped that the author of this creation will talk about it in more detail soon.
Did you expect Doom to become playable on the rotary phone one day? If you get the chance, would you like to try it out? Why do you think Doom is the target of all of these experiments? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
