It’s been a long six years deus ex Fans understandably worried that the long-dormant cyberpunk series would remain untouched. But today, in the cold, harsh light of an industry-shattering takeover, we feel… is it hope? That’s what hope feels like, isn’t it?
Last night, Embracer Group scooped a bunch of stuff from Square Enix’s western portfolio. For the price of a one bedroom apartment In today’s real estate market, the Swedish conglomerate acquired three studios (Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal) as well as the rights to more than four dozen intellectual property rights, including inheritance from Cain, Tomb Raiderand deus ex.
Under his previous administrators deus ex was treated as secondary at best. In 2011, Eidos Montreal was released Deus Ex: Human Revolutiona revival of what was then dormant deus ex

The ones who played humanity divided will remember that the story, well, “ends” isn’t the right word – more like “stops right when it starts in the middle of act two”. From where human revolution had a solid, satisfying conclusion, humanity divided was clearly intended as the second part of a trilogy that spans a bunch of dangling storylines. But instead of getting a chance to do a proper follow-up, Eidos Montreal was diverted to other projects by Square Enix.
In 2018 the studio released Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the third entry in the revived version of Lara Croft. (Crystal Dynamics, the developer behind the first two, is currently working on a fourth game.) Eidos has redirected developers and resources Continue to support Crystal Dynamics received the catastrophic Marvel’s Avengers, which came out in 2020. And last year Eidos released a narrative action game based on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. This game, let the record show, is bloody amazing. But it wasn’t deus ex.
That’s a fact fans are regularly reminded of, thanks in part to the growing notoriety of Elias Toufexiswho famously uttered deus ex Protagonist Adam Jensen. While his main vehicle sat untouched for years, the Canadian actor took on many voices and live-action roles: Prometheus in Immortals Fenyx RisingLeonidas a Assassin’s Creed OdysseyTreacherous Bastard in The wideSome random guy in Horizon forbidden west. All of these services are top notch. Everyone also remembers immediately deus ex Fans (hi) that the last game ended with Jensen defeating an undercooked final boss and uncovering about 18 different conspiracy theories.
It’s high time to bring back deus ex. There’s precedent: It’s not like the series hasn’t gone untouched for years just to launch a revival. Only this time a story remains unfinished. (That Haken: Considering how long it takes to develop big-budget games, a new entry might not be released until later in the year human revolution actually happens.) Of course, companies love money more than a good story. But here, too, there are financial stimuli. In a results report 2017Square Enix pointed to it humanity divided as a key factor in the overall profit of the company. and during a live stream Announcing today’s sale, Embracer Group noted how the two recent mainline deus ex Entries had sold more than 12 million copies – nothing to scoff at.
Sure, all of this may sound like an obvious call to action. At long last, deus ex is the most visible series of Eidos Montreal. It’s not like an international mega corporation would burn hundreds of millions of dollars just to bring it back, I don’t know, Thief (2014).
Haha unless…
