Sony will launch its PlayStation star Loyalty program launches October 5th in North America and October 13th in Europe.
PlayStation Stars is launching today in Asia for the first time and is free to join for those with a PlayStation Network account. Becoming a PlayStation Plus member does not require a PlayStation Plus membership to join the program, although you will receive certain benefits.
The program is accessible through the PlayStation App on iOS and Android, as well as online. Sony plans to expand the program to console devices in the future.
If you’re new to Pl ayStation Stars, it’s a loyalty program where you can earn rewards for completing various events and activities. For example, a monthly check-in event requires you to play any game in order to be rewarded, while other events may require you to win a specific trophy or be one of the first platinum players in your country or region.
One of the first events, Hit Play/1994, had you trying to correctly launch a game of matching song-based clues to earn special collectibles. Events will be updated regularly.
There are two types of rewards that can be earned: loyalty points and digital collectibles. Points can be redeemed in a catalog that may include PSN Wallet funds, digital collectibles and select PlayStation Store products.
PlayStation Plus members who join PlayStation Stars will automatically earn points as an added bonus when they shop at the PlayStation Store. Plus users can also earn points with each Plus subscription payment. PSN Wallet Top-ups are not eligible for PlayStation Stars credit.
Digital collectibles are rendered representations of items such as statues of characters in games and other forms of entertainment, as well as equipment that digs into Sony’s history. There will be new collectibles available on a regular basis, ultra-rare collectibles, or maybe some interesting and surprising ones.
Digital collectibles you earn or acquire can be arranged within the PlayStation App on showcases that you can set up for others to view.
At launch, all members will receive a stargazing telescope to join. Punto, Toro and Kuro, PocketStation and more in Ape Escape 2 are just a few of the first digital collectibles that members will earn or acquire.
PlayStation Stars will also have status tiers that reflect the milestones you’ve reached. There are four levels, each based on the number of “unusual trophies” earned from game purchases and full games from the PlayStation Store. The higher your level, the more benefits and perks you can get.
After reaching the tier, you will stay for the remainder of the calendar year plus an additional 13 months. So, assuming you get a level 2 in October, this level 2 status will remain valid for that calendar year and continue for the next 13 months from January 1st of the following year and January 31st of the following year efficient.
Sony says it plans to improve the PlayStation Stars loyalty program by adding new features, rewards, benefits and ways to enjoy services.
