The 2007 remake The Witcher will give players a little more freedom than the first time. The Witcher remake, which is being developed by CD Projekt Red, will be an open world, unlike the original 2007 version of the game, which was a bit more linear. There’s no word yet on when the remake might be released, which means it’s probably quite a ways off.
The new revelation about the structure of the game came from a slide in the Q3 investor presentation by CD Project Group. Featuring a splashy, fire-filled graphic with a logo for the remake in The Witcher’s signature font, the slide describes the game as a “single-player, open-world, story-driven RPG.” While this doesn’t tell us much about what the remake’s open world might look like, it does sound like a pretty big change from the original game, which gave players a few larger environments to explore as they slayed monsters and earned Gerald upgrades , but was fairly linear overall.
Although none of this comes as much of a surprise, as it’s the very structure that helped launch the series with its massive success of 2015 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it differs slightly from the structure of the original game. Most importantly, it suggests that CD Projekt will expand the scope of the first game and could tell the same story while giving players a much larger and more expansive world to explore.
