Respawn Entertainment and Apex Legends each have to shape the future without one of the formative minds of the studio, because as it has become known, lead producer and co-founder Drew McCoy is leaving the developer. McCoy personally confirmed this in a statement about the short message service Twitter,
McCoy co-founded Respawn Entertainment in 2010 after several well-known developers at Infinity Ward named their hat to start their own business. The process had triggered a mud battle and numerous legal disputes.
Today marks the start of a new adventure for me. I will absolutely cherish the last 10 years I spent helping start Respawn and ship some awesome games alongside amazing people. I'll miss the people the most – the daily arguments, successes, failures, and everything inbetween. 1.2
– Drew McCoy (@ DKo5) February 24, 2020
In the course of his career, he had worked on the shooter series Call of Duty at Infinity Ward and Respawn on Titanfall, Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends. He recently filled the important position of the lead producer at Respawn, so he had a lot to say and was therefore significantly involved in decision-making processes.
In the future, McCoy will now go its own way and leave the chapter on respawn entertainment behind. It is not yet clear how things will go for him personally, but he is certain that a comeback in the gaming area will not be long in coming. It is not yet known how his post will be filled internally at Respawn and whether, for example, McCoy's departure could also have an impact on the future career of Apex Legends.
