Film and series adaptations of video games seem to be popular with streaming services and filmmakers, and it seems sci-fi horror could soon be one of them.
Netflix, Amazon & Co., but also the cinema producers have discovered the world of video games for themselves and are flooding us with corresponding adaptations. Like The Last of Us, for example, which will also be available as a series from January 16th. There are also loads of other brands currently being converted to TV and film formats such as Assassin’s Creed, God of War and many more.
Dead Space is also a potential candidate, and it looks like something is already in the works. A corresponding information is film legend John Carpenter in an interview with Variety slipped out.
Carpenter, a fan of the games, has been linked to a film adaptation of the sci-fi horror classic, although he denies being involved. But something is happening:
“I can’t believe how that spread,” Carpenter said when asked about his potential involvement in a Dead Space movie. “I’m a huge video game fan, so I played all the games. I was looking at the new digital cameras, the RED, and I happened to mention that I’d like to do a Dead Space movie. Word got around, and all said: ‘Oh, when are you doing it?’ I’m not going to do it. I think they’ve already hired another director. And they haven’t asked me to do it, so unless someone asks me, I wouldn’t do it.”
Above all, the statement “I think you’ve already hired another director” really catches the eye. So should there actually be something in the works? There would certainly be worse options than the template… Until there is something official about this, we can enjoy the remake of the original game from January 27th.
